My wife and I, along with another couple, lunched at the George and Dragon yesterday and came away well-pleased with the experience. Indeed, meals out are an experience of a sort, with overall enjoyment influenced by not only the quality of the meal, but also by the service received and the overall atmosphere. As the title suggests, we were impressed... More

We enjoyed a lovely evening here. The staff are marvellous. The food was very good and quite novel rather than nouvelle, which often is too pretentious, this certainly was not it was delicious. We had made the booking shortly after lunchtime for the evening so we saw the lunch menu board which also looked full of great ideas. Would definitely... More

Visited with my husband and we both thoroughly enjoyed the excellent Sunday roasts - mine was beef, he had pork. Generous portions, nicely presented and excellent quality produce which was perfectly cooked. I had the White Chocolate and Strawberry Mousse for dessert which had a lovely flavour and was very light. Always thoroughly enjoy visiting for a meal and hope... More

The owner of the pub sources all of the food locally and from his own local estate, so the produces are very good. My serving of shorthorn ribeye steak with béarnaise sauce, hand cut chips, mushrooms and onions was perfectly cooked medium rare as I like it and the meat was tender and full of flavour. If you like meat... More

We returned to this restaurant while on holiday in the Lake District. Easy to find on the main A 6 out of Penrith. There are different areas to dine in depending on how busy the place is. One dining room is beside the bar while another larger area is seperate. Both were very nice. All the food used in the... More

Having read some of the previous reviews we were a little skeptical when this restaurant/bar was recommended to us by our local B&B hosts. However, we decided to give it a go and were pleasantly suprised, it seems that the George & Dragon have taken the criticism to heart and improved their food and service. The food is mainly sourced... More

Disappointed to say the least, overpriced, small portions, small menu, waitresses didn't seem to care when my husband made a request, and reading previous reviews a pattern is occurring. Shall avoid next time in the area.

I am so sorry you were disappointed on your recent visit to the George and Dragon. We take any criticism very seriously and aim to give excellent choice, value for money and service. We have just changed the menu last week to the summer menu and there are lots of nice choices on it, and portion sizes have been adjusted.... More

Looks great, tastefully finished with an interesting menu. We both ate from the lunch menu, duck sausages in a bad ok, but lunch option was served w crisps, so extra for chips. The 1/2 lobster was well presented but a bit bland, previously frozen. I wondered if they'd stocked the freezer from the lidl £5 lobster deal. Barman was working... More

Thank you for your review. I am sorry the service was so slow and that is something that is inexcusable, I personally hate it. We have used your review to help illustrate to the staff how important speedy helpful service is and how big an impact it can have on a diner's overall experience. Your feedback has been taken very... More

We sought out this pub after a day at Lowther Castle and having read reviews we had high expectations! First impressions were great, staff really welcoming despite us not having booked a table was granted quickly and it was a perfect spot for a two year old not to feel too restricted. Our food arrived within 20 minutes and this... More

Thank you very much for your review. I am so sorry that the member of staff who dealt with your complaint about the soggy pulled pork bun did so badly. The criticism was actually discussed at the management meeting that week before you posted your comments on trip advisor as the pulled pork dish was new and we were keen... More

The website, look of place on arrival, the extensive coverage of locally sourced produce - I was really looking forward to a great meal. Salad for starter was okay but certainly nothing special and tiny for £7.50. Pulled pork for main had a nice flavour (as expected) but a spoonful on a single lettuce leaf in a cheap pre cut... More

Dear reviewer. Thank you for your feedback. The pulled pork dish was new when you came and I can only apologize that the portion size wasn't right. We have, since your comments and the comments of the person above you that also posted a review about the pulled pork dish adjusted it accordingly in light of your comments. We hope... More
