A colleague who used to live in HMB suggested Barbara's Fishtrap. We arrived at 5:00 p.m. On a friday. There might have only been three other couples in the restaurant. It's a cute little fish shack that you would expect in a small little costal town, very simple and clean. We had a sampler platter and clam chowder. What I... More

There was a line of people waiting outside Barbara's and we wanted to find out why. We had the award winning clam chowder and award winning fish and chips. The view and service exceptional.

We arrived around 11a for lunch on a weekday--I'd plan on doing the same, because when we left shortly after noon, the place was blown away with a long line! "Fish shack" is probably an apt name--expect nothing fancy. But there was plenty of charm and the decor suited what this place is--basically a seafood, fish-and-chips joint that's very friendly... I'm not sure what everybody else sees in this place - it is always packed, the only seats are outside, you have to order at a window and take your own food to a table (if you are lucky enough to get one). Personally, I just don't like greasy fried fish, but obviously I am the only one who feels... More

Sorry to write such a downer review, but for me it really wasn't that great like everyone is saying here. I had the clam chowder with a basket of bread which was cold and dry. The clam chowder was grainy , it was just a weird texture , like it had instant mash potatoes in the broth, , it did... More

My cousin and I were both really hungry and on our way back north to San Francisco from Big Sur. We remembered this place from when we were heading south. It is so easy to get to from the highway. We split garlic cheesy bread, I got fish tacos and my cousin got a crab sandwich. The portions were decent... More

In the Bay Area and had a free day before a meeting at Stanford. So glad I drove over to Half Moon Bay and ran across Barbara's. I knew it was going to be great based on the huge lunch crowd. I was certainly not disappointed! The clam chowder was fantastic, and I loved the atmosphere. Didn't catch too much... More

If you are in Half Moon Bay, skip Sam's (which is way too crowded) and head to the tastier option of Barb's!

I are here many years ago and always loved the food. We would fly in to the airport and walk over for lunch. I drove down today and it was every bit as wonderful as I remembered. I hsd clam chowder, full of minced clams, hot, good flavor, fish and chips, the best I've had anywhere. My hubby had the... More

Just ate here today. This place was recommended by a concierge at our hotel in San Francisco. It's right along the pacific coastal highway on our way to Monterey. Great food and wonderful service. The fish and chips were delicious and the seafood platter had some of the largest shrimp and scallops I have ever seen. Ask for Jeanie. She's... More
