We wanted something quick and easy so we did a drive and jump to De Afghanan. Did a combo kabob and the bolani. The beef kabob was really excellent. I also thought the chicken kabob was excellent but someone else thought it was a bit dry. The bolani, sort of a potato pita bread, was good but probably wouldn't order... More

They specialize in Kabobs so you have to try their Tikka (Beef) Chabli (Ground beef patty) Bolani (break stuffed with your choice of potatoes or spinach)

Everyone who visits us in Newark gets taken to De Afghanan. The bolani and kebabs are delicious - my husband gets cravings for them. There are a couple of vegetarian options, though the are fairly simple in terms of presentation/flavor profile (roasted eggplant or squash, with a tangy yogurt sauce and rice). Definitely check them out if you are looking... More

The food is amazing. My husband and I go here and absolutely love the potato bolani, he usually gets the Tikah Kabob which is a beef kabob and brown rice (but you can opt for white rice) and I get the Kado Borani which is an orange squash drizzled with garlic yogurt and served with brown rice. I love their... More

OMG is this what Afghan food tastes like?! If so then I am going to be super sad since I've never had it until this weekend :( This place is a hole in the wall. Definitely not meant for large groups. It's got like 3 small tables on the inside and an table on the outside. But do not let... More

Staying around the corner on Van Ness Ave, discovered this fantastic Afghan restaurant on Geary St, only been there 5 months! A small restaurant, but diners coming and going all night. The entrees were amazing (try the pumpkin!) and we shared the lamb & chicken dishes between 4 people-delicious! The dessert menu is a must-try, especially the rose water/cardomom/ pistachio... More

A friend who lives nearby this eatery recommended to us. I decided to take out for a party that I went. Their take-out joint is right next door to a sit-down restaurant by the same name. I ordered the staples -- chapli & lamb kabab, bolani and aushak. Big portion with fresh salad and rice sides. They were well received... More

When on a short business trip, I referred to trip advisor as always to help me find a good place and the people with me were a little nervous when I picked an Afghan restaurant. However, we were all shocked with how good the food was. We had a potato fritters appetizer that was just so good I can't even... More

Our family of 5 dropped in on Sunday night at about 6pm, and had no trouble being seated, although by the time we left an hour or so later, there were folks waiting for tables. The atmosphere is a bit funky, but in a good way and the food was great. We've eaten at afgani restaurants in a variety of... More
