We came to Carine's Fish Grotto to celebrate my birthday during a great family weekend in Mendocino County. I try not to be negative so I'll begin with the good thing about this establishment: there was an adorable harbor seal playing in the water outside our window. Now on to the reality of the evening: I sucked up a piece... More

On a recent anniversary trip to Mendocino, my husband and I spent a day wandering the Glass Beach in Fort Bragg. Heading back to our hotel we decided to explore a little off the road and turned off Highway 1 down to Noyo Fishing Village and we stumbled into Carine's Fish Grotto. We shared an order of Cioppino and then... More

Wow. I can now say that I've had the worst meal of my life. High prices do not equate to quality dining that is for sure. Over 25.00 for a bowl of clams in broth. First off, when they brought out bowls they were dirty (as was the place so I really should have known and walked out but we... More

It is kind of like stepping back in to the 50's. Very old time building in the harbor. Very friendly staff. Service could have been a little quicker. No credit cards allowed. Tough angle to take for a food place in today's world. Good food and view of the harbor... a bit pricey though. I don't think other ratings of... More

Mom and I had lunch today, and we both really enjoyed the food and family. I had the fried oysters which were freshly shucked and not at all greasy. Mom had house made lobster ravioli with freshly made pasta and lots of lobster filling. The portions were large and I took home enough oysters for another meal. I adore family... More

Love the family although not so much like being forced to tip so aggressively. Food is okay but the prices are to high. Love the atmosphere though, great and uplifting.

Nice ambience. An old Italian family affair. Hooked? Sucker! If you speak Italian -- or Roma, perhaps -- you may get some respect. If not, well, sit back and experience it. A real old world hustle.

First off , I cannot believe how bad folks rate this friendly family run restaurant, they must be truly snooty! The family is truly wonderful and warm. I always make it a point to return here, the food is great as well as the charming environment in the harbor area. Recently, I planned on going on a Tues. eve, and... More

I expected something great from this place. Over the past 8 years it seems to have gone downhill. They seem to be making up for the lack of diners by raising their prices -- a lot! The clam chowder was a joke - a few bits of clam in a sea of bland white sauce. We won't be going back.

At one time years ago, we fell for the charm of dockside eating with grandma and her sons. Sure, there were some minuses--no mixed drinks, house wine only, no credit card accepted. This year, we were shocked at the menu prices, but counted on the food to be extra good. We each ordered a bowl of clam chowder and a... More
