We have made "midnight runs" to the Cookhouse since I was a teenager - we lived about 250 miles south of there (OUtside Santa Rosa) when 101 was mostly 2 lane and slow. We'd leave about Midnight, and catch the breakfast there 6-7 hours later. Was it worth it? IS it worth it? THe Cookhouse is THE most amazing place... more
Don't eat at the Samoa Cookhouse unless you are hungry and want to have fun! It started as a logging camp cookhouse 105 years ago and has been serving food continuously since then, as a logging camp cookhouse for several different logging companies, then more recently as a restaurant. Food is served at the original long tables and served family... more
A complete dinner for a little over $14. We started with homemade bread and butter. Then vegetable soup and salad. The entrees were BBQ pork ribs and southern fried chicken breast. Not haute cuisine, but very filling. The meal comes with coffee/tea and dessert (lemon bar cookie). Food is served family style and you can have seconds. We had a... more
I found out about the Samoa Cookhouse from an article. The writer made it sound like a museum instead of a place to eat. This past Saturday 6/06 (after a long morning pent touring redwood groves) we drove across the bay to see what we thought was a museum on redwood trees and logging. What we found was a logging... more
I go to the cookhouse each and every time I go to the coast. We really enjoy the family friendly environment and the food is great too. The prices are not to bad, considering you get so much. We had a group of about 10 or so and the service was still great. They kept our plates and drinks full.... more
I've always said it's better to get good food with large portions as opposed to great food and hardly any of it. Well the cookhouse is my heaven. Wether it's the breakfest, the short ribs, the fried chicken, anything. YOU CAN'T BEAT THIS PLACE. Served family style with salad, bread and desert. ALL YOU CAN EAT for a reasonable price.... more
I have been eating at Samoa Cookhouse since it was a working mill. I was about 10yrs. old when I first went in with the mill workers. Believe me it is not anything like it use to be. I think I ate my last meal there today(12-7-08). New owners want you to think that this is how it was done... more
I only take visitors here if they really insist because the food simply is not very good. As a museum piece this is great, and does indeed remind you of an old time cookhouse inside and there is a great display of logging era memorabilia. But back to the food. Iceberg lettuce salad, overcooked chicken and beef, bland white bread,canned... more
The greatest thing about this place is it's history. You can just picture what it was like years ago when you walk into the place. Everything is served family style. My husband and I ate there for breakfast. The menu is set so no choices for you. We had eggs, sausage and toast. All like home cooking. They also served... more
