Surprisingly Eureka/ Arcata has a number of excellent Sushi restaurants; Kyoto being one of them. When we travel to the big city there is no need to hunt for quality sushi because Kyoto is as good as most of them. It is a small restaurant that has a loyal following and has been in existence for a long time. Everything... More

My wife and I were passing through Eureka and decided to stop at this Japanese restaurant for dinner on a Thursday evening. The restaurant was practically empty, with quite a few empty tables. The wait staff wasn't interested in seating us and did not seem to be in any hurry. The fact that we had not made a reservation, but... More

Sit at the sushi bar - the dining room is usually kinda quiet and nothing special. The rolls are great - my fave is wrapped with a thin slice of salmon or albacore then tempura-dipped & quick-fried. They always have local wild mushrooms when they're in season - last night there were yellow-foot chanterelles (I think), and hedgehogs in the... More

I come here often, mostly for lunch. I am rarely disappointed. The cookstaff is consistent and the ingredients are very fresh. They try to get as much local fish as possible, which is a challenge. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about, a cramped hole in the wall, but they are open late during the lunch hour, and it... More

I rarely can eat out because I have celiac disease and multiple food allergies. Another local sushi place in Arcata has sickened me multiple times, and I'd pretty much given up on being able to eat out safely. Then I heard that Kyoto is very accommodating to those with food allergies. I've since eaten here twice, and both times it... More

I was craving sushi in a big way and I figured that being so close to the ocean, I'd have a great selection here. Our fish choices were albacore and salmon. The rolls were okay; a little overpriced for the quality. Service was pretty good.

It's one thing to have to wait on a busy weekend night for delicious food at your favorite restaurant. It's another thing to wait over an hour for a bored, inattentive waitress to deliver tempura rolls gone cold and once-cool fish sushi gone room temperature on an empty Thursday night. I went here with 3 friends, and we ended up... More

We didn't have time to make it to Arcata one night before our favorite sushi restaurants closed, so someone recommended Kyoto and even made the reservation for us. We had some new taste sensations. We ate at the sushi bar and ate a lot! We were so hungry from our drive up from San Francisco. Try out this restaurant if... More
