High Decibels, Some Good Food

If you are a weekend drinker who wants Japanese food with your alcohol, stop by here on the weekend, but be ready to wait for a table. Felt like this place caters to people who want lots of drinks, but we aren't that type. That said, the California rolls here were very fresh and some of the best... read more

I've eaten at Amakara several times now and they have consistently provided great food and good service. My first visit was for lunch at the sushi bar and the lady that sat beside me was a regular, introduced me to the owner and made several recommendations - the best were $5 hand rolls that aren't on the menu but area... I travel coast to coast and have sushi weekly. This location is in my top 10 now across our great nation. The atmosphere is so upbeat and friendly and energized. The staff creates this ambiance and their service level is even better. But lets get to the heart of this place...the food! The specialized rolls are done in unique ingredient... More

I have eaten many times, but for some reason they seemed a bit out of sync today. The food was delicious, but the service was off a bit. I have always enjoyed this place, and will still visit, but today was less than the 100% that they normally deliver.

The place is very busy - call and make a reservation. Portions tend to be larger here. Try different sushi rolls. All of them are beautifully prepared. The spicy miso soup was great. Calamari was slightly overlooked.

It's a bit a surprise to find such a popular place in such a sleepy street mall. With probably a half of the stores in that mall vacant Amakara clearly stands out. It is always packed and super busy. What's the secret? Basically it's the food and the feel. The put some interesting twists on the traditional rolls and they... More

We arrived in Dublin, CA to dine at a Japanese restaurant named Amakara. Being a bedroom town far away from San Francisco, we assumed this was going to be the typical quasi-Japanese restaurant with typical American style fare serving pseudo-Japanese meals. While the portions were large according to American dining expectations, we were pleasantly surprised with the first dish to... More

Right off the top, if you are looking for a quiet, smaller, more romantic place or just to have some business conversation, then you are choosing the wrong place. This restaurant is large and seems hectic on the 3 occasions we have been there. Aside from that, you will likely enjoy the wide variety of food and the way it... More

Was in the area for a 4 day business trip. One of my coworkers recommended it. Tried it on a tues night for dinner and was shocked at how busy the restaurant was. Was able to sit at the bar without a wait. I decided to try the poke, hamachi appetizer and the scallop lemon roll. I enjoyed all three.... More

This place is awesome. For me, this is the best sushi place in Pleasanton. We were five in the group when we went here and ordered quite a number of different rolls to share with. I enjoyed every single bite!.... until the tab came. it was really expensive. our tab costs us almost $200 (including tip) for 5 guys with... More
