The service was good. The food was decent. It's a fun spot to check out but it just looks tired to me. Very well run. I gave it a 3 star probably because I expect more, being from a more sophisticated part of the U.S. but then, this is Desert Hot Springs so probably needs more stars!

My fiance and I came in, not a single "hello" or acknowledgement besides some guy raising up two fingers and saying "two?" I said thank you when we got seated. No response. After a long wait we asked for 2 chabelas. Tasted awful, and still another half hour for the waitress. She finally came by and said "ready?" I would... More

Desert Hot Springs can be an adventure in all it's self. South of the Border is a good solid safe place to each with good food and service.

The service was excellent and the food was authentic "south of the border". Not the trendiest spot, but who cares?

Went with the family for dinner here. Atmosphere is typical tchotchke stuff on the walls and lots of stuff stuffed around. Wait staff was friendly. Ordered one kids meal and three adult meals. Kids meal was less $ but when the meal came it was the exact same size as the adult portion. Food was fresh but average run of... More

Just about every Saturday, we get together after service to enjoy a GOOD, very good as a matter of fact, dinner, accompanied by a delicious mango, peach or strawberry Margarita. We have visited all of Desert Hot Springs Mexican Restaurants and we keep going back to South of the Border; there's something special in their seasoning or something, that makes their... More

The food was ok, but nothing special. They are flexible with the orders though, so that's good. I understand we're in DHS, but for example, Thai Palms up the street is serving up some really taste dishes. The chips and salsa was good, and they brought us some hot green sauce when we asked for something spicier. It's inexpensive and... More
