I have eaten at this restaurant at least 15-20 times, and I have never been disappointing. It is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the greater San Diego area. Located above street level in a Class A, small outdoor plaza with excellent high boutiques, Il Fornaio is one of 4 or 5 restaurants to be found there, most of... More

We love Il Fornaio. The view is gorgeous and the bar fun and active. Their servers are always polite and efficient. The food delicious and reasonably priced.

The outdoor dining plaza was the perfect venue for the rehearsal dinner for 95 people we hosted in August. Tanya Coffey, our event coordinator from the restaurant, was very professional and a delight to work with. Planning an event in California from Florida was not easy but Tanya made it seem easy. With Tanya's help, we customized the menu, bar... More

We were there on a Tuesday night, food was great, service was timely and friendly. The views from the patio are lovely, would be a great place for a romantic dinner.

We're visiting from out of town and pleasantly surprised to see a familiar Il Fornaio. We had reservations at 7pm but didn't get seat until 7:30. Not a good start... However, we asked and got a table in the outside dining area which made the dining experience much more enjoyable. Food was good, but took a long time and two... More

I went for a lunch and I was really satisfied. The food was fresh, I had seafood and it was tasty. The service was also good, I am italian and some of the people who work there are from italy. I suggest this restaurant to have good food.

Because of the poor reviews I am sure I would never have selected this restaurant but am so glad friends invited me because it was one I would not have wanted to miss! The butternut tortellini was the best I have ever tasted, the bread was hot, fresh and delicious, the service was superb and the lovely sunset made all... More

I am an italian and know what italian food should be. I also understand, after living in the US for 20 years that authentic italian food is hard to find. I came on 4 different occasions, lunch, dinner, during the week and during the weekend. The result was the same. Mediocre food, service depends on how busy they are but... More

Everyone knows there are issues with Del Mar. For example, parking is extremely constrained but parking enforcement is not. In addition, traffic (particularly during the San Diego County Fair and Race season) is more like a parking lot. Well here's another issue with Del Mar that you should know about. While I generally enjoy Il Fornaio's happy hour, they have... More

Buongiorno, We apologize about your last experience at Il Fornaio; unfortunately since we started our happy hour (6 years now), we've always suspended the food during race season. With two huge bar areas with a view, it just to much on pizzas, there's only a certain amount of pizza that can be made in such little time so in order... More
