When i first walked in i wasn't expecting a lot but the food was great and the service was ok. They have a large menu in what looks like a newspaper. i had the french dip which was very good. I ordered the split pea soup but they were out so they offered the chili instead and it was good... More

This place is better than what I was expecting... Definitely true that they have ginormous servings!!! I had the chicken fried steak which was pretty good, the hash browns were ok, and the eggs were eggs. I have had gravy that is way better than this place so I can't give it five stars, but so far, in Davis, this... More

Hadn't been here for quite awhile and decided to revise my review based on 2 recent visits. You get a lot of food for a fairly reasonable price, but I think the quality has gone down since I first started eating there (that's why I deleted by original "4-dot" review and am reducing it to 3). On my 2 most... More

I was looking for a classic breakfast—you know, the hearty kind farmers might eat. More eggs, bacon and potatoes, not so much fancy omelets and frou-frou French toast. I drove to Woodland last weekend and enjoyed the Savory Café, yet that is a ways to drive for breakfast. This Sunday in church I remembered the Black Bear Diner. It is... More

This restaurant is on our regular rotation for breakfast or lunch. Staff is very friendly but efficient. Portions are very good. They are located not far from the UC Davis campus so college students are always present during the school year. Food is consistently good and always promptly served. I've eaten at many Black Bear diners but the staff here... More

This is a very popular place for me and my family for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Food's great and the portions are not skimpy. There's something for everyone.

We had our first encounter with the Black Bear Diners in Grants Pass, Oregon, and it was so good, we decided to try it again. This was a great restaurant to eat. We had some great seafood and then some fantastic dessert. We learned about the difference between cobbler and pie - the peach cobbler was terrific. Shane was our... More

I like the fact they open at 6 AM for breakfast. Very friendly wait staff and average to good diner food.
