Went to Gen Kai's because of good reviews in various OC magazines. My wife and I are sushi lovers and love trying new and different things. The rolls here are inventive and different. It seems that they come out with new rolls on the menu often. The rest of the food is pretty much standard fare sushi restaurant stuff. The... More

We didn't know what to expect at Gen Kai, but the menu was really inventive with sushi rolls that were delicious and creative. The baked crab handroll, mango roll and pop shrimp roll were especially good. Our only issue was that the food was brought out as it was ready, so we got our sushi before some of our appetizers.... Good quality fish. Prices good for standards in the area. In my opinion, it's the only place when choosing to get sushi. Go!

i was last at Gen Kai about a month ago, but have been coming here for over 20 years. I'm not a fan of "fancy" rolls, but rather prefer sashimi style raw fish. The quality of the fish here is out of this world. They're happy to prepare the sushi/sashimi to your liking. My favorite is the hamachi sashimi with... More

This restaurant offers so many choices of good dishes and rolls it may take you a while to decide what to eat. We received quick, excellent service and enjoyed our meal.

Learned abput Gen Kai through the St. Regis staff. I asked a few of them who were working at different departments pf the hotels is they knew the best Japanese restaurant in the area is. All of these peeps suggested Gen Kai. So I thought...sounds good looks like the locals like this restaurant. First of, there was quite a wait... More

Food was terrible, poor quality, not fresh, left most of the food on the table, paid bill, and went back to hotel, ordered a pizza. Made my family want to get sick.

Went here based upon the excellent reviews. The sushi was VERY fresh and quite good. The service was lacking but thats OK. The bill was cheap (for CA) and I'd go back for sure.

We enjoyed first the Robert's Roll, then a "local" sat down and immediately started being served his "regular meal" which at first I thought he was joking...it's not on the menu, it's called a "Happy Meal"! Only available for lunch or during the week for dinner, it's truly going to satisfy your heart! Miso soup, and sushi, sashimi pieces to... More
