A Trip Back in Time

We've eaten here many times through the years and nothing ever changes. It's like stepping into the 60s where the food is always good. You can't go wrong with the fried chicken and the French Dip is tender. They even asked how I wanted the beef cooked, which rarely happens. It's dark and... read more

Great food, service was a bit slow... Maybe understaffed for V-Day. Pre-fixed menu for the night, so choices looked limited. The girlie got braised short ribs which she loved. I got prime rib which was above average, but not the best. Ambience was old school english pub/steakhouse. Four stars for Daly City.

We kept passing this restaurant because of the negative reviews. However we tried it and the food was excellent and the portions very large. The atmosphere was old fashioned and more like a pub but it was fine and seemed to have repeat customers.

Visited while staying in the area for work. Had the prime rib dinner. Baked potato was good along with the prime rib. Service overall was attentive. This was a good choice.

We have lived here for 6 years... and tonight was the first night we came to Val's. WHY? did we not know about this place? Locals, comfy bar and tables, dark wood, tequila gimlets, pints, great wines by the glass starting at $7, "after-school snacks" at happy hour (at least tonight, a Tuesday, at about 5:30)... super attentive bartenders and... If you want a retro experience and somewhere to take your parents or aunt for brunch consider Val's. It's very traditional american, probably costs the same as a chain diner , but you get much better food and service. Tables are covered in linen and the steaks are absolutely awesome. I kept wondering when Sinatra was going to make an... More

This is a Daly City institution: predictable, comfortable, lots of regulars. The food is solidly and consistently good. The service is attentive and has character. This is a good place to take your grandparents or a second date. The menu is mostly traditional: steaks, chicken, salads, sandwiches. The Friday clam chowder (alternating red and white each week) is very good,... More

This was a very popular place for locals and was very busy. Along with our large group they also were able to fill all the tables and serve delicious food. The prime rib was excellent. Will be going back next time we are in the City, even though this is out a ways, if you have a car it's worth... More

Some reviewers think this place is dated, but I think the decor is part of its charm. We were looking for an impromptu late lunch on a Saturday. We would have gone to Westlake Joe's, but that restaurant has closed. My husband suggested this place since he has taken clients there for business lunches before. We were greeted by the... More

If you want to be taken back to old San Francisco then this is the place to come. The food is standard fare and the wait staff are knowledgeable. The booths are great too. The bar is cosy, especially in winter when they light the fire. Feels like it's from the TV show Happy Days!
