A weekday night that required reservations - that explains the popularity of Il Fornaio. The food and portion sizes were above average, the interior was authentic and the view of downtown San Diego is beautiful. This isn't a shorts and flip/flop restaurant.

We had lunch at Il Fornaio October 2014. Believe the bad reviews about the service and food. We sat with empty water and ice tea glasses for most of our lunch. The glasses were filled at the beginning of the meal but never refilled. We ordered the Caprese Calda, Margherita Pizza and the Capellini Al Pomodoro to share. The waiter... More

I asked for the dairy free and gluten free menu. They only have gluten free minus any cheese. The menu had no prices on it. When my companions received their 1st of their 3 course meal, the waiter asked if I would like a small salad. I said okay. The salad was just okay and the steak was okay but... More

This restaurant located on the San Diego Bay side of the island is definitely fine world class dining but my particular dish for the night was not what I expected it to be. I ordered the braised short ribs dish from the Lombardi monthly menu that they were promoting on the tour of Italy taste menu. Being that I have... More

Lovely place, good food, within walking distance of the Marriott. It's just as nice as the Manhattan Beach, and the old Santa Monica restaurant. Thanks for a great evening.

We had a large luncheon party. Right on the water. Views of downtown waterfront San Diego. We had an Italian waiter from Italy. The food was authentic. We found wine from small Italian villages where we had vacationed. The staff made sure our lunch matched the time of our enjoyment. It was an altogether positive, vibrant experience. We would go... We had fond memories of this place; great view, pleasant atmosphere and wonderful bread baked on the premises. Sadly now it only delivered on the first two. The bread looked overbaked, and the taste was also not the same. The pizza was O.K. the calamari - on the plus side was not oily - on the minus side was a... More

The place was packed when we arrived and we had a couple of drinks at the bar. The white tablecloth service and attentive staff made the wait worthwhile. We has the calamari which was very tender and tasty. I had the penne ala vodka al dente. My wife had the Bolognese. Both were very good. We capped the meal with... More

We attended the wedding dinner of my son and his new bride at this restaurant on some short notice, like one day notice. I can't believe how accomadating this place was. I expected maybe 15 people to show up but try at least 30 people showing up and tables were moved and chairs were pulled up and that was just... More

This was not my first time dining at Il Fornaio. I have enjoyed New Year's Day dinners here before. However, it is the first time I have taken guests from out of state. As always, it did not disappoint. It is a romantic, candlelit restaurant on Coronado Island, with the most amazing city views of the highrise towers of San... More
