Description: Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio means "the Baker" in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; house made pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and house made soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch.

Have been to IF many a time. Most recently for my b'day. Food is always amazing and staff are friendly and efficient. If you can, grab a table on one of the patios. It's worth a wait for the view of downtown San Diego. Beef Carpaccio, butternut squash rav's and any dessert they are offering! Reservations a plus on the... More

The first proviso: we went to Il Fornaio on Mother's Day! What were we thinking? Well, we were hungry and we were away from home. So, it was crowded and service was slow. Our table shared the wall with the bar and there were times when we thought a helicopter was about to land on us. We looked enviously at... More

Our friend, who lived in San Diego, was our tour guide. The bread basket is divine! The wait staff was very attentive & charming. Some menu items were offered in smaller servings for smaller prices which I really appreciate. However, my husband is Italian & a terrific cook so eating out Italian is never as good as home--thus the rating... More

It was very busy when we arrived and because we hadn't booked we thought we would be disappointed, however the staff were very helpful and we were quickly accommodated. The food was very nice, beautifully cooked and well presented. I struggled to finish my fish as the portions are large. Good atmosphere and reasonably priced.

Came here following a very long day of trekking around the island and everything just fit. The view of the bay was terrific, but that was only part of the very positive experience we enjoyed. First, we enjoyed the open, high ceilings and the fact that the open kitchen appeared, well organized, clean and added to the authentic feel of... More
