We were just walking past and fancied a coffee before eating dinner some time later in the evening. After seeing the burgers and experiencing the friendly staff ended up having dinner here. The food and price are very good would recommend for a casual meal.

We stopped at the take out window for a quick refreshment after walking to the beach. The coffee was flavorful and even though it was afternoon, was not bitter or stale. My friend had the soft serve ice cream and deemed it very tasty. The baked goods looked great, but we got there too late for the donut holes that... More

We had lunch here and this is a very busy place. We got a booth and loved the classic rock music. My son got to play his favorite Buddy Holly song while we waited for the food. Great diner food and service.

Loved this place! Great local place...I purchased a fun apron here to bring home to remember my trip from San Diego..sat up at the counter, had a delicious omelette with fresh avacados, desired the pie, but refrained, had a great cup of coffee...it was a packed house, but enjoyed my quiet lazy saturday on the island at this wonderful gem... We actually went there because we had seen another review and sure enough it was true-reminded us of a café in the 1950's/1960's. Lots of old time decorations, music & comfort food.

When I moved to San Diego in the 70's, Claytons was in Coronado - and it still stands today. Nothing special, certainly not fancy. It is a casual, clean coffee shop that serves an incredibly reasonable breakfast. You could go to a Denny's but Clayton's is really a coffee shop that will win your heart. Eggs, toast, crisp bacon and... More

Even if you are not tired of oh hum breakfast food at hotels this place is a must. What a tasty treat! Cute interior, juke box against the wall and wait staff with smiles. Well done

Breakfast was very good at Clayton's. Strangely, my usual "test" breakfast is eggs, hash or cottage potatoes, bacon/sausauge/ham, and that tells me a lot about the rest of the menu. Good to very good. I am am amateur expert at that artery clogging combination, and I'd definitely go back to Clayton's...will, I should say. The ambiance is a bonus. It's... More

I've been to Clayton's at least 8 times on my visits to coronado and have loved them all. This time however I was sadly disappointed. I ordered a half stack of pancakes with bananas The order came out, I was so excited. They were awful. Not hot, hard on the outside and rubbery on the inside. Hard to eat unless... More

Recommended as a local dinner experience; quick reasonably prices, and fun atmosphere. This is a nice retro dinner that is usually crowed with locals (a good sign). Décor is true to the past with a jukebox selection at every table, a stool/bar seating... even a manual cash register. Chalk boards with daily and weekly specials add a nice touch. I... More
