My family loved this place, but I thought that it was so-so. The only vegetarian option--the baguette with tomato paste--was only okay. Most people love Viva Madrid, though.

You want this place to have good food. Any food should taste good when the restaurant looks like you are somehow transported to the center of Madrid, not Claremont. But, the food is terrible. I looked forward to the usual Spanish tapas: the tortilla, the shrimp, the patatas, paella. It was all bland and tasteless. The only things that did... More

We have been to Spain and had the real deal and Viva Madrid - for tapas - is the closest facsimile we have found in the new world. We were a party of there and had a wide variety of tapas, along with some very tasty sangria! We did not try the 'mains', as we were after tapas. Some were... More

This a great place with good food, and it is very atmospheric. The one big downside is that the room is acoustically very live, so you often can hear everyone except the person you are trying to talk to. Definitely don't take anyone here who has hearing problems or who is a low talker. You will just get frustrated. Otherwise... More

Small, intimate and old world charm. Check out the cool chandelier in the center of the restaurant. The tapas are the way to go. SO many choices to choose from! Both the white and red sangria are a good deal and delicious. Everyone loves the bacon wrapped dates, and it's obvious why. You have to order to foo-foo coffee and... More

My husband and I went to Viva last night. It only took us 20 minutes to get table. Slim pickings in Claremont, so not bad. We had the spicy olives, good starter, then the fried Calamary, the chef skipped the salt, but eatable. Then we had the ox tail, yum, and the Calamary in its own ink, good. The ambiance... More

I wanted to plan a special dinner not too far from San Bernardino so I search for something special in the city of Claremont. Viva Madrid came up and had many great comments. We went on a sat nite around 630pm. Took about till 715pm to get a seat at the bar. I've never been to a tapas bar so... More

I've been to Spain 3 times. I know what Paella, a simple, varied and delicious rice dish, tastes like. The basic spice used is saffron to give the rice its distinctive yellow color. So why don't Spanish restaurants in Southern California make it as it should be. The Spanish restaurants in Riverside and Orange County make the same mistake. The... More

Tapas are okay but the entrees are top notch and about as good as it gets in the ie. If you can't pronounce the dish, order by number and the be careful with the sangria, it will catch up to you.

Hidden in a passage way is this cozy restaurant with great tasting tapas. The service is efficient and there are lots of great tasting tapas! The paella is nice, but not outstanding.
