Small But Good

This building was originally the ice house in the city of Claremont, so its not that large, but they serve great beer and the burgers are always good. They have a good variety of beer both on tap and in the bottle. My suggestion would be to get their early since it can be very crowded.

A quaint place to savor their limited but good selection of food that has diminished just a bit recently. A wonderful place to explore beers you won't find anywhere else. Outside is the best place to be if you don't like noise; inside is fun and lively. It resembles a small European pub and is surely worth a few, maybe... More

This is a very popular hangout so it is always very crowded and understaffed. They have a great selection of beers and their French fries are the best.

We met family for dinner. It was quite noisy and not good for conversing with people you have not seen in a while. Menu is very limited although the food was excellent. The beer menu was extensive with some very expensive choices. The beginets were outstanding. Service was pretty good. We had to wait for people to leave to push... More

Anywhere with Popperings Hommel gets my vote. The Back Abbey has a great selection of beer and good food. Sometimes a bit noisy though.

The restaurant is pricy for burgers and fries but the burgers are definitely worth it. We had the Red Monk with cranberry/apple chutney and feta cheese. Yum. The food is always hot. The servers are always nice. Our waiter a few nights ago was very attentive. Staff was on hand to refill water and ketchup. The burgers tend to be... More

I loved this place. We heard about it from friends and had to check it out. Its small and has a matching menu. I think limited menus are a good sign when eating out. While its got loads of Belgian alcoholic options, I was wishing there were more foreign beer, lager and stout options - but I guess that's just... More

I've eaten here many times in the last couple of years- I'd eat here more often if I wasn't watching my cholesterol!. The beef is of highest quality; the fries, which are fried in duck fat, are deadly good. They make a very good pork shnitzel too, served on a salad- its pretty close to what my Hungarian mom used... We had a late dinner after arriving late into town. The food was tasty, typical pub food. High quality ingredients. The cheese plate was not the best and they did not explain the cheeses served. Interesting beer choices, limited wine list.

The Back Abbey will not disappoint if you love Belgium beers and enjoy great food. The space is small with a hip vibe. There is also outdoor seating for a beautiful California sunny day. The service was prompt and friendly. They have an abundance of Belgium beers on tap and many others by the bottle. Surprisingly they have a decent... More
