Mexican comfort food

Nothing fancy here, just good food with big portions. The service is genuine and, although not high end furnishings, the place is clean, friendly, and comfortable. We have never needed a reservations but the place is nearly always busy.

We hadn't eaten here since the '70's and the food was still great. The service was prompt and I recommend the signature burrito.

A previous rated stated that it was dirty, chairs worn etc. All FALSE!! Absolute lies. Not sure why they would purposely smear a very nice place. I am guessing the competition It is a small "hole in the wall" restaurant. Food was amazing, and I couldn't eat it all; I had shrimp enchiladas. The beans were awesome, rice was great.... More

Not very clean looking. Food was boring. Tables and chairs were very worn. No need to go back. They need to try harder.

I use to live in Imperial Beach, next town over. Started going to El Patio at the age of 12. Now, when ever I visit San Diego, El Patio is a MUST stop. I always get the same thing. The Burrito Grande with rice and beans, side of guacamole. Fresh, hot, HUGE portions...I mean HUGE. The staff are friendly, attentive,... More

One of the best shredded beef burrito's I have ever had!! I live in Phoenix now but grew up in southern California and really miss the Mexican food from this area. I found this little gem about a year ago and now whenever I am in the area I make it a priority to stop in! Do not expect fine... More

Back in 2003-2004 we used to eat here often,. Since the new owners took over added new items the service and food have gone down hill. My wife I Iast visit sat for 20 minutes with no waitress and no menu. When we finally got waited on took forever for the food we had to flag down the busboyu for... More

As a local SD native, I have eaten here hundreds of times and I always stop in here when I back in town. The mixed burrito with cheese sauce is awesome!

Husband and I have eaten at El Patio for decades. The food is always tasty and fresh. Their menudo is one of my favorites. The salsa is always fresh. Everything is GOOD! The service is always quick, friendly and efficient. Craving a shredded beef taco or burrito right now. The food is true Cal-Mex border food and the beer is... More

The recipes are the most authentic this side of the border. There is a reason they have been here for over 50 years. It might sound inconsequential, but I love the free chips and salsa. I tried the short ribs and they are delicious. They have many entree's that are not your typical fanfare. Every time I try something new,... More
