This is a upscale New American kind of place. The food especially the food and the exquisitely prepared vegetables bring my time after time. I the " I am California" tastes and service. I like to linger over a meal here and have some Coffee and an original Desert as the end of a lovely time with the right friends.

I highly recommend this restaurant for fine dining. I have eaten here for a number of years. During 2013 I became dissatisfied with the meals. The quality went downhill. However, a new owner took over in late 2013, and the food is now excellent. Restaurant decor is very nice, service is excellent. This is a gourmet restaurant. It's pricey for... More

The Red Tavern has been my favorite Chico restaurant since they opened in the late 90's but on my last visit I felt like something wasn't quite right, The ambiance and the food seemed different.I found out shortly after that the original owners sold the business about a year ago. The food was different but good, what bothered me was... More

We were on a two day trip to Chico and visited the Red Tavern for dinner with another couple. The appetizers, entrees, desserts and service were excellent.. We were so impressed we returned the following night and had the same outstanding experience. The atmosphere is also wonderful - low noise level and great soothing ambiance inside and out. We did... I took my wife to dinner at the Red Tavern last week. We've been going there for years, but the dinner that night was interesting. I had ribs and my wife had enchiladas. Ribs and enchiladas at the Red Tavern. They were, of course, done in the Red Tavern style with interesting takes on old standard fare. I thoroughly enjoyed... More

We had a nice dinner at the Red Tavern in Chico. We went there around 8pm on a Friday night when the town was fairly crowded. We were seated right away. The restaurant is a very pretty long narrow room. The bar and the door to the patio are in the back. We asked about beer and wine selections. We... More

For the high price, I would expect great food. I was disappointed with dinner. The selections were limited and the taste unpredictable. We went with two other couples and found that the food was mediocre. This is a great place for desserts, though and the patio with Bocce ball court is a great place to hang out for drinks...

The menu changes frequently but is always varied and almost always excellent. We are regular customers and have had a couple of dishes that were below their usual high standards, but we continue to return knowing that the norm is high quality food. Service is consistently excellent. Weather permitting, the outdoor patio is great and the diversion of bocce ball... More

They feature locally sourced produce and meat on the menu. It is nicely prepared and presented in a cozy dining atmosphere. We prefer to go to locally owned restaurants and this one fits the bill exactly.
