My mate and I were so pleasantly surprised by the quality of this establishment. This is true, au friedthentic soul food. You have to try the fried chicken, candided yams, baked beans and cobblers. We were so impressed with the food and service that we had to return before the end of our trip. This is a MUST visit. more

this might be southern food, but most of it came directly from the freezer. if you're expecting "home" cooking where it's made from scratch, this isn't the place. i grew up in the south, i know what it is. fried okra was perfectly battered, just like in the freezer case. collard greens were seasoned with something akin to balsamic vinegar.... more

I had the pleasure of my first visit to Big Mama's Soul Food in Palm Springs on Friday, Oct 23, 2009: what a complete joy! This was the BEST Southern cooking I've tasted in many, many years outside of New Orleans itself. The HUGE fried chicken wings were crispy on the outside, but moist inside and the portions was huge.... more

Man ole man. Look out tastebuds! This incredible dining spot, hits the spot! Some of the best southern food anywhere. I was born and raised in West Virginia, and have been all through the south. Can say I have had my share of southern cooking. But this place takes the cake! The catfish here is to die for. The greens... more

I recently visited this "soulf food" spot and unless you never had real authentic soul food than you would probably say the place is ok. First when i say authentic I mean made from scratch, i had what was suppose to be a pulled pork platter and three sides. the meat was awful! I couldnt tell that it was grilled... more

One of us wanted some catfish. Very good and you get nice portions. BBQ sauce very good and the chicken was moist and good. Baby Back Ribs - tough and just a little past cold. Ordered a full rack, half of it was so tough and the other half OK.. Collard Greens - EXCELLENT! A little pricey, but for the... more

This rustic little restaurant has GREAT food and the owner is VERY kind. I go to Palm Springs once a year, and I make it a point to eat there at least twice while there. The collard greens have some special ingredient that only the owner and his grandma know, and they are to die for. The sweet potatoes will... more

Big Mama's Soul Food is a positive experience from the moment you walk through the door. The wait staff is exceptionally attentive - the music sets an uplifting and relaxing atmosphere - the food and service is the best we have had since Pascal's in Atlanta, GA, which is hard to beat. Owner Dan Webster (University of Alabama football fame),... more
