One of our favorites. No nonsense, efficient, and great food. Small, sometimes a wait, but all who visit seem to enjoy the wait knowing they will enjoy a good meal. Everything fresh and well prepared.

We had dinner on a weeknight at El Gallito. The restaurant came highly rated. Reservations are not taken and we had about a 30 minute wait (no bar and small waiting area). Our server was brusque and difficult to understand. The restaurant only serves wine and beer. The chips seemed to be store-bought and the salsa was mediocre. My classic... More

This place doesn't look like much from the road but had heard for several years that it was really good. It is. The food is tasty and generous, and the service is fast and courteous. Sems like it is very busy most of the time. Cash only, one check per table, but great Mexican food.

If Tex Mex is what you're looking for, then this is a fun little place to try. Be ready for a wait most times! The waiting area is small, so you get to know the other guests! Met a local and a couple from Canada that had eaten here before! Recommended the shredded beef Burrito Especial! Very good! Would have... More

This small, family-owned Mexican restaurant is on our must-visit list every time we're in the Palm Springs area. Although the actual address is on Grove Street, you can easily see the restaurant from HWY 111 (E. Palm Canyon Drive) while driving through Cathedral City. This homey restaurant with great food is small & VERY popular, so if you arrive anytime... More

We came here Xmas Eve and expected to wait for a table but to our pleasant surprise we were seated immediately. Went on the recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed. Excellent food, friendly efficient service but best of all well priced and a kitschy homey vibe. If you like cheap n cheerful Mexican food, I highly recommend El... More

What a great spot - cheap and cheerful with excellent quality. Huge portions, very extensive menu, great family service, delicious! do you need anything else?? the place looks like a little house on the side of the road and inside is kitchy and casual. Easy parking, and just next door to the Mary Pickford Movie Theatre so its a perfect... More

El Gallito is where the locals go for mexican food. Yum! Portions are decent and the food is excellent. The building is a small home converted to a restaurant. You will feel like you are at nana's. Come during season, because it closes for the summer. Have the Marguerita before or after you go because there is not a full... More

If you have driven highway 111 between Palm Springs and other desert cities, no doubt you have passed this hidden treasure. El Gallito serves authentic, fresh delicious Tex Mex and has done so since 1978. Service is accompanied with brilliant smiles and excellent simple service. So glad to have finally discovered another hole in the wall that keeps locals and... More

The Mexican food is good and the cozy quaint atmosphere is fun. But, give me a break, they don't bring an endless supply of chips and salsa and we were afraid to ask for more. They have rude signs all over the place. No chips for anyone until you order, No checks, no credit cards, and in the rest room... More
