December 30 was my second ever trip to The Hitching Post after a first visit in September. I remembered it being good, but it was better the second time around. I don't know if it was because of other first timers along for the fun or what, but everything about it seemed better. Maybe it was the dry martini? The... More

Great wine and even better steak. Funny, the salad and sides were not great at all. The vegetables seemed like they were jolly green giant frozen and boiled. But that said, loved, loved my meal, because I was there for the meat and wine.

You will drive and drive out to the middle of nowhere, but be prepared for the best meal you've ever had. This is not modern fusion yuppie, food. This is real cowboy steaks. The place is not fancy at all, but has a certain ambiance anyway. Don't be shy about accepting a table in the back by the kitchen. These... More

Friends who live in the area know this place well. We, of course, heard of it from the film, Sideways. This is a different location, same chain. Very homey decor--nothing fancy. A very cute outdoor area with garden art and a koi pond. But that's not why you come here. You come for the steaks, grilled over an oak fire.... More

The food in this out of the way restaurant is cooked over an oak wood fire pit. No matter if the steak order is rare, medium, or well done it's always perfectly prepared! The chef is a master over his fire pit. An unexpected dish is lobster, prepared over the same Oak fire pit, that is delicious!

Saturday night special was a 30 ounce ribeye. Made me think of that steak place in Amarillo "72 ounce steak. You eat it all, it's free."

My husband and I were recommended this restaurant and since we were planning on playing Marshallia Ranch we decided to try it. The appearance and location was not what one would choose. The bar opened at 4pm and so we all had a cocktail, which where good and the bartender was very entertaining. The waitress was very helpful with choices.... More

After a long day of travel, we traveled from Vandenberg AFB to the Hitching Post. A good find in the middl of nowhere. The smell..from the parking lot was intriguing. Not a fancy place, a little too pricey, but good. We decided to split our meal and were pleasantly surprised. Our meal came with a tray of veggies, shrimp cocktail... More

After a long day on the road and despite having booked the landmark Hitching Post II in Buellton, thought about the shorter trip to Casmalia. A very cutesy restaurant in a one-horse town in the middle of nowhere. The food, chatter and buzz, every bit as good as its sister but after some recon activity, found a delightful koi pond... More
