My first visit to the Hitching Post was in 1979 and the restaurant had an atmosphere of the West, the food was great and the staff were "down home". The 2014 visit was okay, but not as good. The staff was less friendly, food was a little above average. It's not worth the 10 mile drive from Santa Maria on... More

I am greatly saddened to say that one of my favorites, Hitching Post I, Casmalia, CA, has declined. I have been going there for 19 years and have always looked forward to a return trip. I live in Southern California so it's quite a hike for me to visit HP. The event has always been in conjunction with a few... More

My Porsche Club were on a Central California Coast tour and stopped in Casmalia at the Hitching Post for an early dinner(4:30pm). The HP had been checked out before and we asked if they could handle a group of 50 people. They stated that at that hour, before it was busy, they could. Upon all 26 cars and 54 people... More

Would have to say some of the best BBQ Beef I have ever had. Did the house special 36oz bone in Ribeye Damn wonderful and full of a very distinct BBQ flavor I have never had before. Others had Filet, sirloin, and reg. menu rib eye. All just loved it and the wine selection was up to speed. Kind of... More

Love putten on my cow girl boots and heading out to The Hitching Post. Waitstaff is always great even though they are always super busy. The veggies and crackers you get once seated are a nice treat while you purse the menu. We love their Pino Nour when it's available. Dinner includes a salad, garlic bread, entree (always filet for... This restaurant is simply wonderful, and so unique. As part of organizing a car show for the troops at Vandenberg, we come here for an after car show dinner. Last time we had 50+ people and everyone agreed the food and especially the service was amazing...and what a bargain! Terri and her staff treat every customer like a longtime friend.... More

Make your reservation and plan to enjoy outstanding food and service. We have enjoyed the HP as a couple or for family outings, I even took a chance alone after golf and had great service at the bar for dinner.

My wife and I last ate here some 25 years ago. We haven't had the opportunity to return until now. It seemed like nothing has changed -- the building is the same, in the same out-of-the-way location. The menu is the same and the food and service are still outstanding. Our waitress told us she has been working there for... More

This is a well-known local landmark in the middle of nowhere. Do not be dissuaded by the smell of horse manure that seems to permeate the area; the inside is quite clean and smells great. The staff was good; and there is reasonably priced good local wines like Rancho Sisquac. The "shrimp cocktail" is made of tiny shrimp that are... More

I went to the Casmalia HP for the first time in more than a decade and was very pleased. We went on a Wednesday, and while busy it was not so crowded that we felt rushed or ignored. The wait staff was beyond compare -- water glass barely touched but refilled; easy-going about order requests; fast delivery of food; pleasant... More
