A Gem in Carmel

A visit to Carmel would not be complete without a dinner at L'Escargot! This charmer is quaint with a sophisticated French menu. The wine list is very good, offers a nice variety for everyone. Veal Sweetbreads are excellent, foie gras delicious, warm crusty bread - perfect starters. Every entree... read more

Celebrated my birthday in Carmel and dined at this restaurant. The service was great and the food was fantastic! Ambience is very nice as well. Hot fresh bread from the oven followed by the veal sweetbreads in a delicious madera cream sauce followed by Diver Scallops. Desert was a lemon and chèvre cheesecake. Of course the Chardonnay was a perfect... More

Discovered this restaurant in the last six months of so, and have dined here about four times, the most recent occasion being Sunday. They had several delicious sounding specials and a couple of new menu items. I chose one of the new menu items, Beef Wellington. Our server, Dino, provided his usual excellent service, including the recommendation to slice the... More

We have been coming to this restaurant for many years,,,,,when owned by the previous owner and now with the new owner.....every dish we have ever had there has been wonderful and the rabbit and pasta dish is superb.....it isn't inexpensive, but there aren't too many restaurants in Carmel that are less AND as good....the menu offers all types of foods... We made reservations for this restaurant weeks ago through Open Table. This morning we got a call that they had made a mistake and the restaurant was sold out for that night. Mistake is right....we won't go again.

This place is no longer owned by the great man and is no longer a must visit when in Carmel. We were dissatisfied with the food and service and felt it was over priced and reliant on its history rather than its quality. Used to be the place to visit and get your picture taken in the past - alas... More

Tucked away behind a doctor's office, l'Escargot is charming and romantic. I'd asked for a quiet table when booking and got it, with the solicitous waiter asking if we liked it. Service was the best in recent memory. Our cordial and knowledgeable waiter offered a taste of wine before we ordered a bottle. Unfortunately, the food was just so-so. My... More

My wife and I have been going to L' Escargot for many years. We have dined there on New Year's Eve as well as on other holidays. Our most recent visit was on a Friday night. The regular menu was quite complete and there were also many "Specials" to choose from. The soups, salads and entrees were excellent. The recommended... More

Recommendations: The escargot in the classic style - nice flavor, good temperature, pleasing presentation Sand Dabs - crispy but not oily, excellent flavor Chicken Madeira - local chicken (I checked it's id before eating), very nice accompanying sauce. The service was friendly and spot on throughout the course of the meal.
