Disappointing

Stopped in Carmel for an early dinner enroute to San Jose for a red-eye to the east coast. We ate in the bar/casual section. Menu looked good online, but our food was disappointing. (Maybe I was turned off by the sketchy rest room). My fish, which tasted average at best was supposed to be served... read more

Came here with my, then, new husband ages ago and had dinner. It wasn't earth shattering food but it was special because it was a special and romantic trip. We were glad to find it still existed and they expanded to a space next door. Their crab pasta was sauce-y and very delicious actually. Nice that we didn't need a... More

I love abalone but it is so hard to find. (We got it from neighbors who dove for it off the coastal areas near San Diego when I was little so I developed a love for it at a very young age). I was very happy to find it on the menu here when we stayed in Carmel for a... More

Fresh food, great service and all around great place. I just don't understand how this place can have bad reviews, even the people around us felt the same way. I had the halibut which was outstanding and oysters to start off with. My friend had salmon which she loved, and then we finished off with a piece of key lime... More

A little to noisy and chaotic to be "fine dining." The atmosphere of the restaurant seems identical to the Oyster Bar next door. OUr waitress was very knowledgeable, however, and the food was good though not great. The crab-artichoke quesadilla is a mistake (I have never thought seafood mixes well with Mexican food; at least, it doesn't mix here). The... More

Only had one dish - a bowl of Manhattan Chowder. In the past this was outstanding, with a thin flavorful broth and lots of big tender clams. This time it was thick, like tomato paste, with tiny shreds of clams. Disappointed.

I am writing this from my hotel room, fresh back from this experience. My husband and I drove over 1000 miles from Portland, Oregon to enjoy a romantic night of seafood and wine in a world-reknowned setting on the beautiful coast of California, in Carmel by the Sea, and WOW, was I ever surprised here tonight to find myself and...
