Description: ESTABLISHED IN 1988When we opened Allegro Gourmet Pizzeria in the summer of 1988, we did so for selfish reasons. We craved an authentic Italian experience on the Monterey Peninsula. The days of pizzerias with sawdust covered floors on lower Alvarado Street were gone. As the small fishing village known as Monterey slowly disappeared so did its soul.A few small restaurants still had some of that old feeling but they did not have the food our more traveled palates were beginning to expect. Some had, great food and a great feeling, but were too expensive or trendy to be called “local spots”. We needed a place to go to – a little “tucked away” spot to discuss life, enjoy good food, family and friends…. and still be able to pay our bills on time.So in July of 1988 we set out to capture that elusive dream; the soulful pizzeria that exists in every Italian neighborhood. No big deal, just great food, friends and wine. The kind of place that your feet take you to when your mind is not paying attention. And when you get inside, it feels good…like you are home.Allegro is a place where you can satisfy your Italian soul. Simple, healthy, delicious & unpretentious. Welcome to our little part of Italy. We hope you enjoy your stay . Nina & Jeano

We decided to do a bonfire on the beach one evening so we ordered pizza. We got a meat, margherita and another with sundried tomatoes. They were all very good. Not your normal boring pizza!

We try to eat here every time we visit the Monterey area. The pizza toppings range from simple to very unique - all good, though. My favorite is the del pastore: goat cheese, almonds and soft and sweet whole garlic cloves. As a starter we had burrata with crostini - delicious if you love the idea of cream-filled mozzarella. We... More

This restaurant is tucked away in The Barnyard, a big retail/dining complex in Carmel Village. The best feature of this restaurant is the unique combinations of pizzas offered and the fact that they also provide pizzas with gluten-free crust! Because of an allergy/intolerance to wheat/flour/gluten, I am rarely able to enjoy pizza--especially out at a restaurant. My gluten-free pizza was... More

Although there is a lot of variety of pizzas, there's not a lot of toppings. We ordered two different kinds and the toppings were extremely light. Crust was thin which I like.

After a long day on the road, we were looking for a nice "mom and pop" style restaurant that could offer classic homemade food. Allegro certainly offered it! The bread and oil that they bring out before the meal was delicious. Very fresh and tasty. My wife and I shared the Spinach and Ricotta pizza which was very good. It... More

I ate here while on a quick visit to carmel over the weekend and ordered two pizzas to go to take back to our hotel next door, the staff was very friendly, the pizzas were tasty and fresh but the crust wasn't very firm so it made them hard to eat without fork and knife. I would definitely eat here... More

We were staying in the near bye Carmel Mission hotel and this was conveniently placed for us. We all ordered pizza and enjoyed them. We were well looked after by a friendly and knowledgable waiter who came into his own when we got to discussing Californian wines. He recommended a merlot from a local vineyard and it was quite stunning... More

This pizza is a cut above your average pizza joint, but not quite gourmet fancy pants pizza. The Barnyard setting is convenient and a peasant place to browse.
