After a disastrous dinner elsewhere, we decided to salvage our meal by having dessert here. Great choice! My other half had their apple bread pudding, which is always delicious. I decided to try something new, so got their grilled banana sundae, with strawberries, chocolate, and candied pecans. Only one word needed to describe it: YUMMY!

We stopped here for lunch and so glad we did. Not wanting to eat a huge lunch, we decided to spilt something. We got the grill shrimp and brie spinach wrap with potato skins. Everything was yummy and the potato skins were the best I've ever had. Cute atmosphere and plenty of regulars at the bar.

Winters can get very dark and cold down in Carmel. Head over to the Rio Grill's Happy Hour between 4-6 and enjoy a cozy seat by the fire while enjoying some tasty appetizers and drinks, all at reduced prices. We enjoyed all of the vegetarian and fish offerings including deep fried artichokes, fried calamari, sauteed peppers, and quesadillas. There are... More

The decor invites you to taste flavors from Mexico and South America with a California twist. Fresh interior with brightly painted native sculpture and art. The service was friendly, no rush…….wait staff provided great recommendations…….. nice wine list. We were so impressed, we had lunch there as well. Great experience all around. I had MahiMahi, well seasoned and prepared, for... More

While staying in Carmel on vacation from Ireland we came across this gem. It was without doubt the finest meal we have experienced this trip. The presentation was excellend the quality Devine and my wife and I were unanimous that it was a high class venue we had visited. The staff were excellent and the General Manager came to our... More

I don't know where to begin with this review. We loved the sound of the menu options, but the food went from delicious to dull. The arugula salad was delicious as was the quinoa side dish served with the fish special. The sea bass main dish, however, was undertone, and very fishy with a.strong smell. The large portion short rib... More

Just happened upon this place when we stopped for gas before Big Sur drive. Thought we were going to have a wait, but immediately seated. Loved the atmosphere - everyone so friendly - big birthday party close to us, but not loud. Food was very good - the banana split was EXCELLENT!!!

The restaurant may have been responsible for the plague of "let's take a classic and tart it up" trend hereabouts. Mutton dressed up as lamb is still mutton.

Carmel offers a lot of very good dining options. The Rio Grill continues to rank at the top of the list. Interesting menu, friendly service, good wine list. Try the crispy pork shank - great mix of flavors. The only negative is that the Grill get very loud when its full.

Years ago the Rio Grill used have people lined up but after many years a return visit was bittersweet. They still have a good wine list and the menu is somewhat interesting but the shine is gone and the execution sub par. Our server was nice but poorly trained and putting the wine list on an iPad doesn't mean you... More
