Nice location - plenty of parking. Ambience - subtle southwest, very inviting. Table settings - beautiful on white table cloths. Service - decent, fast, attentive and efficient. Food - the dinner menu is small but don't let that fool you. The appetizers are superbly prepared and well presented but are usually just for one person. If you are thinking family... More

The Rio Grill has something for everybody and it is good. We ate here for lunch before and said we needed to come back for dinner sometime. So, we did. We ordered an appetizer of smoked tri-tip empanadas with Hatch green chile and avocado crema. For entrées, my wife ordered the house smoked half chicken with mild-smoked chile butter, baby... More

The Rio Grill was a lot of fun. The interior design is very colorful and includes a lot of very interesting artwork on the walls. The service was excellent and they were kindly flexible regarding food preferences and especially letting us essentially design our own cheese plate for desert. The fish stew was flavorful and definitely a desirable dish if... More

Located out of reach of most tourists the restaurant seems to cater more to the locals and tourists who make the effort to escape Carmel by the Sea proper. It's worth the 5 minute drive to eat good hearty fare with a Mexican flair but all the while not being a Mexican restaurant. Nice to see a kids menu with... More

I found this with my "Around Me" app. And what a good find. This place was decorated with exceptional creativity. Very unusual--and very very popular. The menu was a little different---some interesting combinations--and very thoughtful choices. There is a reason why this place is so mobbed. I think it is worth a wait.

We've gone to the Rio Grill for years. We commented after our most recent visit how consistently excellent their offerings and service are. There's a reason we always return. For sure try the flank steak!

As a long time resident of the Monterey Peninsula, I've been dining at the Rio Grill for many a year. On Sunday of this past week [during the Bach Festival in Carmel], I decided to go to one of my favorite places. Well, I'm elated that I did, for at the time that I went, the venue was quiet; the... We went to Rio Grill yesterday with our three children (ages 6, 8 and 11). First off, the table was ready and we were pleasantly surprised that they have paper on the tables and crayons to encourage silly drawings and pictures by all. I was also happy to see that they gave each child a kids menu with little activities... More

I thoroughly enjoyed the food here and the drinks. I really enjoyed the staff. The waiter was just the sweetest, nicest and always had a big smile on his face. I remember I couldn't decide what to eat because so many dishes sounded so good but since there were three of us we ordered different dishes and just tasted each... More

Lovely restaurant in a outdoor shopping area. Delicious food and excellent service. They even had a gluten free menu. We weren't really dressed quite nice enough but they welcomed us in anyway. Nice casual will do. Yummy!
