My husband and I have eaten at PortaBella several times in recent years and have had a wonderful dining experience on each occasion. Our most recent dinner, last August, was no exception. We always dine on the patio at this restaurant (including once with our dog) - the atmosphere is charming. It's lovely inside as well, however, we've always been... More

Fantastic Italian restaurant on the main drag (Ocean St.) of Carmel...Superb atmosphere, terrific service, excellent cuisine (romantic for the romanticists but merely a peaceful like "zen" experience for the rest of us!) Their soups are "a cut above" in all respects. The front patio faces the street and is quaint. The interior is tableclothed with nice arrangement, fireplace and very... More

We had dinner here a few years ago and thought it was wonderful. Went back again this trip and were not disappointed. Great food, service and atmosphere.

After a day at the beach we took our lab to dinner at Portabella. This is a great restaurant with an "indoor patio" for the dog crowd. The patio has a roof and canvas and plastic walls and heaters so it is especially good for rainy or cold days. The dog is welcomed with a nice bowl of water. The... More

My husband and I had lunch here during our stay in Carmel. Cottage atmosphere and great food. One of the best paella's we've had! Pricey but well worth it for a very nice lunch or dinner in the heart of Carmel. Excellent friendly staff.

I was walking up the Ocean Avenue looking for a place to eat when Porta Bella’s beautiful and relaxing ambiance invited me in. What a dining experience it was! The Cesar’s salad was the best I have had in years, made of truly petit hearts of romaine with flavorful parmesan crostini; the Porcini-Crusted Dayboat Scallops were fresh and exquisitely prepared.... My brother was in Carmel a month ago, had dinner here, and couldn't wait to come back. There are many food choices in old town Carmel, but we're glad we had dinner at Portabella. Everything was wonderful; service, atmosphere, menu options and the food! Our meals were exquisite! Prepared with fresh ingredients and the expertise of an Italian chef. The... More

We stopped in at the suggestion of our hotel nearby. I asked first if it was ok to just have desert. I think maybe it wasn't even though the place was only about half full at 7:30. Service was slow. We had three deserts and three coffees. I never did get the glass of wine I ordered. The bread pudding... More

The food and wine was great. Initially they forgot about us when we arrived for a table, but then our waiter was very attentive.
