Had a couple of the pasta dishes; penne and fettuccine. Just average. Sauce on penne was from a jar I think. Service was good although an off hour so would expect plenty of attention. Decent prices. Warm fresh bread.

It was our first visit to Carmel and every place we saw was a picture post-card worthy material! We walked along the Ocean Avenue looking for the right ambience and outdoor-dining to make the best use of the sun on the winter afternoon. We were two couples and we found a nice table near the entrance ensconced between the hotel... More

Celebrated 50th Wedding Anniversary dinner at Portabella and the setting, foo,and personalized service could not have been more perfect. The attention to everyone in the restaurant was outstanding and "real" not just "how is the food---enjoying your meal" comments usually given at restaurants with waiter not really wanting any real comments. Cannot wait to return for another 1st class dinner... More

Carmel is an inviting community and the Portabella truly drew us in with its charming exterior. The host was wonderful and was very attentive to our needs. However, the same could not be said for our waiter. That counted for average score on service. I love halibut and could not resist it, while my wife ordered the sea bass. Both... More

So romantic and the food was so good! We printed a coupon off the Carmel website and got a discount!

We really love this place for their paella. It is delicious. We also think this is a very nice romantic restaurant right on the main drag in Carmel. We will return again.

My wife and I had lunch here as we had heard from the locals that this is a great restaurant. We started off with the spinach salad that was very good and very unique. We both ordered the Halibut luncheon special which was awesome. We sat on the outside patio in the back part of the restaurant. Great service. We... More

Such a charming little restaurant and such excellent service and such mediocre food. The only dish which was not bad was my husband's Prawn Bisque. I looked forward to what was touted as a tapas plate. What I was served was a large helping of green salad in the middle of a largish plate, on the edge of which was... More

Not sure if the food is great or not, as we had salads and appetizers rather than more complex entrees. What we had was all well prepared, and well served. We chose this spot because it was a sunny day and we wanted to eat outdoors. The lovely patio fit the bill perfectly. A nice wine list and some interesting... More

I had read lots of positive reviews before deciding to have lunch here and now I'm confused about where those reviewers have dined before their experience at Portabella. Our experience was mediocre to pretty bad. The server was obviously very new and was oddly apologetic, which was very uncomfortable. The arugula salad literally had no arugula in it and the... More
