We had asked them in advance if they could accommodate food allergies, and they said they could. However their idea of "accommodate" is to serve main plates without any sauce, and to remove the flavored side dishes in favor of something super bland... which meant the main dish tasted like cardboard. Additionally they served us water in dirty glasses. Their... More

A very cozy spot on Ocean Avenue, festive for Christmas. The service is attentive and the food is good. We enjoyed a delicious seafood pasta, good salad too. Would gladly return.

My husband and I have been eating at this five star restaurant for years every Christmas season. We travel with our two big dogs to Carmel because we appreciate how it caters to dogs. Portabella is one of the places we return to year after year for many reasons. One, our dogs are treated like royalty. Two, the service is... More

We had our anniversary dinner there and we're not disappointed. Great food and service. My wife had the pork chop special and I had the paella. Huge portions and wonderful flavor. We shared the wild mushroom napoleon. Superb!! A Carmelx restaurant not to missed. Special thanks to Fanny our charming hostess and Rifat our knowledgable and fun server.

Actually we had lunch & dinner here on the same day. We checked the lunch menu & some items caught our eye....namely the roasted corn crab bisque.....and decided to try it. Our Doodles were brought a water dish presented on a linen napkin. The waiters were so gracious we decided to make dinner reservations on the rear patio & we... More

After vacillating whether to eat at Portabella or Andre's Bouchee Restaurant & Wine Bar we both decided that Portabella's menu was much appealing to us, and we made a very good choice. We dined on a Monday night and we had impeccable service. The restaurant also has a full bar, but we opted for a nice bottle of Freemark Abbey... More

We don't get Sand Dabs in Chicago - and we tried them at several in Carmel - by far, these were prepared the best and the largest portions we saw. The salads are as big as the service that really wants you to feel 5 star quality at this right on main street eatery -don't be put off by the... More

One of the best if not the best in the village. Top quality food and service. A delightful place on each visit. Outdoor covered area if you are traveling with your dog. Restaurant decor is relaxing and upscale. Never been disappointed.

We had a late lunch here on 11/8/2014, about 12:45 pm when we entered and we quickly got a table on the covered patio easily. My wife had the Roasted Corn with Dungeness Crab bisque. Very nice, loaded with crab. I had the mushroom soup, also very good. We had a terrine of pate’ also. Not enough toasted bread accompanied... More

This is the first time we've dined in the main dining room at Portabella, and we were fortunate it was a slow night, so we got seated right away. Everything about the meal was wonderful. We shared the sand dabs, which were very very lightly breaded and in a picatta sauce, accompanied by perfectly done green beans and mouth watering... More
