A Little Pocket of Italy in California

My wife and I stopped in for a late dinner (just like Europe!) due to the lovely music playing outside. The service was incredible, the paella was delicious and the environment was just so relaxing and peaceful. Do yourself the favor of taking your love here, you will both love it!

It is a bogus. Overpriced food packaged nicely, so you tend to think it is excellent food. It is not. The mushroom soup was good, but then who knows what's in there after going through the blender? But this was ok. The real disapointment was the coq au vin. It seemed to carry a lot of butter in the sauce,... More

What a nice little spot to dine al fresco. The service and food was lovely. I highly recommend the fresh scallop and shrimp salad... and the homemade sorbet in their almond tuille is just delicious!

I have dined here many times and always have enjoyed it. Great food and service. Csaba the owner is a first rate host and makes us feel so welcome. Try the mushroom appetizer and the best paella anywhere outside of Spain.

Attentive service in a delightful setting makes up for less than inspired dishes. The crab cakes were more "filler" than crab, but the Niçoise salad was very good.

We happened upon Portabella while browsing Carmel. We were attracted to outside appearance and was indeed impressed with inside décor. Our lunch was delicious and service was excellent! We would definitely recommend Portabella. Enjoy!

My wife and I had a very pleasant dinner here however it was not as good as we would have expected. The host wore on us relatively quickly repeating the same joke at each table. The food was presented nicely and tasted nice but nothing that was memorable.

Food is good, would make a point of looking forward to dining here until last Spring. I ordered something that was a staple, only to discover it had been taken off the menu, what was presented was slightly different, had mushrooms which I cannot eat; asked for the meal to be adjusted. When the bill arrived, I was charged for... More

We enjoyed lunch on the patio and it was perfect. The salads were great and they had a nice wine list. The entire restaurant is very quaint and the location is hard to beat. When in Carmel again, we will return

What a great restaurant! We asked the concierge at the Cypress Inn for a recommendation for a dog friendly restaurant and they suggested Portabella. Granted it was a slower evening but the service and the food was excellent. We brought our own bottle of wine and although there was a corkage fee the staff was accommodating and welcoming in opening... More
