We were encouraged by our hotel to try this place out, as it is so popular. We went for a nice dinner for 2 and enjoyed the atmosphere. However, the food was not as good as we were told. I ordered a soup which was supposed to be spicy, but it was way too spicy and I nearly choked on... More

Our third trip to the Flying Fish in Carmel, our favorite meal during our visit. The mood is casual with booths that give a private feel. The food is obviously mostly seafood but with a Japanese touch. Everything I've ever eaten there has been delicious such as nut crusted sea bass over potatoes surrounded by a broth with cabbage--tasted so... More

This was truly a remarkable meal. The service was exceptional, they provide a respectable wine list and the meal was amazing. The restaurant has a warm ambience, appearing rustic but very comfortable. The spicy tuna tartare and tempura prawns were lovely starters, we ordered the black bean halibut and almond-crusted sea bass and swapped plates halfway so we could both... More

We live in San Diego, so are no strangers to good sea food. The halibut I had at Flying Fish Grill was probably the best I've ever had. Also adding to the experience was a delightful host and wait staff. I love the way they've broken the restaurant into little intimate 4-table alcoves. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Delicious, imaginative food from the complimentary fried wonton squares with fruity salsa to the ahi tuna tartar, excellently prepared Alaskan cod Creme brullee with berry garnishes -- one of best we've ever had (who knew in a Japanese restaurant!) Service: outstanding; one of best servers I've ever had; attentive but not overbearing, authentic, friendly. hostess/owner welcoming. Ambiance: cozy, nice booths,... More

After hearing rave reviews from friends and locals, I thought I would give Flying Fish Grill a try. Reservations are a must as this spot is quite popular - especially on evenings that the Sunset Center has events. Flying Fish did not disappoint. From the special request of a 'quiet' table, to the attentive, professional and knowledeable wait-staff to the... More

We wanted to book a restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday whilst we were staying near Carmel. After spending some time reading various restaurant reviews I decided that the Flyish Fish would be a good choice. By the time we booked there were only tables available at 5.30 or 8.30. (It was a Saturday night in November.) We decided that... More

We came here for dinner on a Saturday night early November and we were a bit disappointed. Perhaps we had our expectations set too high from the reviews on tripadvisor. We have read reviews that the restaurant is an authentic Japanese restaurant and the seafood was fresh. Seafood was fresh - there is no doubt about that but this restaurant... More

Do you ever have one of those meals and your spouse orders the best courses and yours are disappointing? Well, that was our experience at this restaurant. We started with the panko crusted calamari. It was okay and pretty basic. I ordered a salad and the dressing was way too salty. My husband ordered the shrimp curry soup and it... More

Had a fantastic meal in this cosy restaurant - we booked from our hotel earlier in the evening and were lucky to get a table. Lovely ambiance and lighting - located downstairs. Both service and food were excellent. We especially enjoyed the Joullian Sauvignon Blanc (and spent the rest of our trip looking to buy some to take home!) Would... More
