Description: Mundaka is a Spanish style tapas restaurant in downtown Carmel, CA. It is the result of great friendships, a love of food and wine and music, and a long term romance with Spain and its culture. Open in March 2009, Mundaka continues to evolve daily with the creations of our chef Brandon Miller, and the musical musings of all our talented contributors. Mundaka aspires to be the hub for all that is tasty, fun, artistic, creative, and cultural in Carmel-by-the-sea. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Mundaka is probably not for everyone. It's rustic, like the Basque areea of Spain from which it takes its name. The food, too, is Basque oriented. So if you like that--or if you haven't tried it and think you might like it--give Mundaka a try. We had the Chuleton, a Basque steak for two grilled over an open fire. It's... More

This is a hidden gem in the heart of Carmel. We almost missed it because it is tucked back in a little courtyard off one of the main streets. After reading the reviews on TripAdvisor, we decided to give it a try, even though neither of us had ever been to an authentic Spanish Tapas restaurant/bar. Our server tried to... More

We made a reservation to visit Mundaka after seeing reviews on line on Trip Advisor. This is a restaurant that specializes in Spanish tapas. We were promptly seated and greeted by our waiter. The customer service was excellent; informative, welcoming and patiently helpful. We ordered a house red wine...good...and about a half dozen tapas. Each was exceptionally well prepared, presented... Loved the food here and the attentive service. Great selection of dishes, we liked everything. The only issue was trying to chose what to have. The atmosphere was very laid back and friendly. The old guy playing Spanish guitar in the corner gave the place soul!!! Had a great evening.

I had read the reviews and was so excited to be able to visit this restaurant.....we were not disappointed! The sangria, as well as all the dishes we ordered, were amazing!! Even our kids, who can be quite picky, enjoyed their meal! The highlight of the meal was this delicious steak that we shared amongst the 4 of us....and we... More

Went for dinner on a Saturday night. We liked the ambience and indeed felt like we could have been somewhere in Europe. The service, wines and the food were good. They offer some very "different" innovative high-end tapas (e.g. foie gras on banana brulee) plus the standard favorites (patatas bravas). Depending on the dish/tapa, you get a little or lot... Enjoyed tapas at this restaurant before going to an event at the Sunset Theater (two blocks away). The choice of meals was excellent, and of course the sharing of tapas dishes is always fun. Not inexpensive, but worth the price. Atmosphere is quiet and romantic / festive, and the staff is attentive and wishing to please.

We brought our 3 year old here for dinner despite the fact it is not recommended for kids on Yelp. Our sever Toby was delightful and made some solid food and drink recommendations. We found the place very accommodating for children as three more families with toddlers and infants arrived just after us. Our favorite dishes included the chorizo and... More
