Description: Mundaka is a Spanish style tapas restaurant in downtown Carmel, CA. It is the result of great friendships, a love of food and wine and music, and a long term romance with Spain and its culture. Open in March 2009, Mundaka continues to evolve daily with the creations of our chef Brandon Miller, and the musical musings of all our talented contributors. Mundaka aspires to be the hub for all that is tasty, fun, artistic, creative, and cultural in Carmel-by-the-sea. We look forward to seeing you soon.

I stopped at the Mundaka cafe for breakfast on my last visit to Carmel. It was the second visit, as I am gluten free, and this cafe makes the best gluten free bagels I've tasted! Well…unfortunately, it appears as if this business isn't a serious enterprise, as they were staffed with only one person on a beautiful Saturday morning! It's... More

Great tapas, served at your timing and discretion; many traditional and some showing chef creativity. Unlike the tapa tradition, however, there is absolutely NO list of sherries to go with them - no fino, no manzanilla, no amontillado - nothing. When I asked if sherries were available, I got the port/cream sherry list for dessert. So for us, half the... More

And it can get expensive, as everything else can in Carmel. The atmosphere is good for couples and small groups. Has a hip feel to it. The paella for four ($48) was a good value; it plus a couple of small plates and you're getting out for less than $20 a head, rare for Carmel. Wine list could be better.... More

This Spanish tapas restaurant in the heart of Carmel definitely exceeded my expectations. I didn’t have high hopes when the extremely chatty and folksy host, after determining it was our first time at the restaurant, launched into an explanation of what tapas are (we’ve eaten at many tapas restaurants around the world, including Spain), and then went on to urge... Only found out about Mundaka once we arrived in Carmel and we were so glad we did. Great tapas, and unlike other tapas restaurants, they didn't just plonk all the plates on the table at the same time, which we really liked. Loved the atmosphere and the chilled out, unstuffy feel to the place. Well worth a visit!

Tried Mundaka as it was recommended by our guide book and very glad we did. Sultry atmosphere. Live music. Great tapas. Great wine. Great evening.

Mundaka is a true gem! We arrived late on Sunday and had trouble finding a place open past nine. We found this place and we couldn't have asked for anything better. The owner was friendly and extremely welcoming. Everything he recommended was excellent. We had the lamb burgers and everyone agreed 'best burger ever'

Really enjoyed this place. Tapas were excellent. The selection was moderate, but there was enough for me to be satisfied. Prices were a tad high for the tapas, but this was more than made up by the "party wine" (no questions asked...) we ordered at $5 per person. Not a bad Spanish wine actually, and we had a full bottle.... More

This review is long overdue, in short…do yourself a favor and don't leave Carmel without going to Mundaka. We had our rehearsal dinner with a group of 25+ here and the night couldn't have gone any smoother. We made the reservation with very little notice, but they were super responsive and they reserved the front room for our group (supposedly... More
