Mundaka is a Spanish style tapas restaurant in downtown Carmel, CA. It is the result of great friendships, a love of food and wine and music, and a long term romance with Spain and its culture. Open in March 2009, Mundaka continues to evolve daily with the creations of our chef Brandon Miller, and the musical musings of all our talented contributors. Mundaka aspires to be the hub for all that is tasty, fun, artistic, creative, and cultural in Carmel-by-the-sea. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Tapas and paella in Carmel

We went to this place with a group of 6, and really enjoyed it. Best to go with a few people so that you can sample a lot of things on the menu of tapas. The mushrooms and the garbanzo beans were my favorite. Sangria is also good, and also the paella.

All of the tapas were very good, and standouts worth mentioning on their own are the guindilla (grilled and salted peppers), hamburgesa with homemade chorizo and the paella that was full of delicious seafood and mussels. The owner and servers are friendly, and the restaurant has a very homey, comforting feel.

We ordered 5 tapas in total. Some were tasty, some less. All of them were tiny portions, except maybe the "bravas". Staff was friendly, but it didn't make up for the $60 for what was basically a starter. Maybe we just had bad luck picking the tapas, but we wouldn't go there again.

Food was just okay and frankly disappointing since we were hoping to find a place that served good Spanish cuisine. The Papas bravas were soggy. The tortilla, the pan tomate, and the bomba was decent just nothing special. The boquerones and hamburguesa were the best food items we had, but still they were just okay. For $9 the hamburguesa was... More

Lynda and I were spending a few days in Carmel so decided to make a lunch stop in the Mundaka Restaurant. It is tucked back in at the corner of 7th St and San Carlos so is easy to find. We ordered the seafood paella and were very happy we did! It came on a big metal pan and was... More

My partner and I love tapas and this place didn't disappoint. The croquettes were delicious. Save yourself the trouble and order 2-3 serves off the bat. We could've gone for 10 serves they were that good. I wasn't fussed with the trio of tuna but my friends enjoyed it. I loved the bomb, the duck and best of all the... More

I can walk from my house so Mundaka is one of my Go To restaurants. Eclectic atmosphere, great bites. Service is timed to your timeframe. I've sat chatting and eating all evening or had a quick meal before the theatre.

Having dined here many times since it opened, I have become very familiar with the menu and service. The past two times I've dined here, I felt the service was rushed and inattentive as though there was some sort of drama going on between staff members. The food has become less interesting and more "workman like". I feel the original... More

Biggest disappointment in Carmel. Food was horrible, servers were rude. Do not recommend coming here.
