Lovely!

After a really tiring day of driving and trekking in the Big Sur we were happy to settle here for dinner and drinks. Special mention to the hostess who served us, she was so friendly and warm and full of good suggestions. Highlight was the ginger cake with the chantilly sauce.. yummm

Good selection of tapas on the menu--and some were very good (like the Gambas) but others were only so-so. The service was friendly but also a bit spotty. While our waiter was very warm, we had to remind him two or three times about parts of our order. Perhaps our experience was average + but it does not warrant a... More

I had to go to an authentic tapas bar at some point in my life. I'm glad I had my first experience here at Mundaka. The food I ate that evening were some of the most exquisite I've ever tasted. I think of the many plates we sampled, the Paella was perhaps the least impressive, however, we were completely amazed... More

Just average -- a bit pricey and nothing special. Service was good, but food was just so so. there are lots of other choices in Carmel, so may want to skip this one. we had duck confit, bacon wrapped dates (these were good), patatas bravas, and cauliflower gratin.

Fly in my salad so I stopped eating My friends second dish (it was a vegetable!) took over 45 minutes to cook. We left hungry and went somewhere else for dinner. Service was slow and poor excuses were provided. There are plenty of good restaurants in Carmel so this was shocking how bad it was.

Never heard of it? Neither had I until my first and last visit here. Tapas dishes were stunningly average. We had almost finished eating as a group when we were approached by a chef who had just cooked some "lobster paella". As lobster is a favourite of mine I ordered a portion to share. Couldn't find any lobster in the... More

This restaurant came recommended and we don't have a clue why. Outside was a cute atmosphere, ruined however by the scads of smokers hanging about. The food was about as bad as I have ever had. Cold oily paella, bland tasteless tortilla espanola, and overfried croquettes. The jamon was hard to ruin. At least the wine was ok. The servers... More

This place is expensive for what you get....the food was experimental and wrong. Luckily my bf and I have a good sense of humour as the bad food didn't destroy our night even if it did lighten the wallet. We both thought Carmel to be pretty but overpriced and pretentious. Overly touristy.

Mundaka is a prime destination for tasty tapas and cocktails in Carmel. The service is warm and friendly, and you will always discover a new Spanish treat, as the owners are constantly adding new delicacies to the menu. Be sure to ask for recommendations!

Chef Brandon knows what he is doing. Unique and traditional tapas. Imports some ingredients directly from Spain. Sometimes he's outside on busy night cooking squid ink paella to keep gusts waiting for a table happy.
