Superb fine dining in Carmel

My wife and I ate at Aubergine in August, 2015. I recommend the restaurant. This is fine dining -- in every sense. The food is sophisticated, the service polished, and the prices high. We found the conception and execution of the dishes on the tasting menu to be superb. With one exception, the... read more

Best restaurant in Carmel for food, but sadly with mediocre service and poor attitude. To begin with, Justin Cogley is by far the best and most creative chef in the Monterey Peninsula, even better than Sierra Mar under both Craig von Foerster previously and John Cox now. Sadly the dining room is staffed with very mediocre servers, arrogant sommelier and... More

This award winning restaurant has an eight course meal with the option of the wine pairings. Each course was superbly and beautifully done. The serving size was appropriate for the number of courses and each one was delicious. The chef included several surprises during the meal, which was an added treat. The wine pairings with each course was perfectly paired... More

What a fabulous hotel! Close attention to every detail has to be their hallmark. They were so friendly and helpful, even though we were there during the big car show and the whole town of Carmel was swamped. Not much of a view because it is in town but the location is top rate.

A culinary, gastronomic experience! We had 9 courses with some 'amuse les bouches' or amuse guelles', they were brilliantly prepared and presented. All portions were relatively small, so overeating or discomfort was not a problem. The wine chosen by the sommelier was excellent for the meal. However, the final price tag of $850.00 for three people seemed a bit excessive;... More

Took husband here for his birthday dinner. Previous reviews have it down its expensive but for us it was a wonderful evening out. All the plates were amazing, I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed eating and the ambiance. We were seat with a lovely couple who we ended up chatting with. At the end we even got a tour... More

The food and service are easily a 4.5-5. Creative menu and attentive, yet not irritating, service. The only con is the setting, which was a little bright and stark for my taste.

A case of the emperor not wearing any clothes. Food as art that may work as art but not as food. We spent a week in LA the week before and had some truly exceptional meals at half the price. Kudos to the pastry chef who stole the show.

My brother-in-law made reservations for us and we had no idea what to expect. Expect a few things: one of the most elaborate and expensive meals you`ll ever have; amazing service but a tad cold and robotic; and wonderful food. Prepare to spend minimum $200 pp and it is almost worth it; however, I think they overcharge for the experience.... More
