I went to Aubergine with my boyfriend as we were visiting California and a chef we know highly recommended this place. The restaurant is small and quiet, located in a charming Relais & Chateaux. Rich products were used and were plated in the way that this awesome product wouldn't be ruined by other flavours. Sometimes you just want to eat... More

We went here based on reputation and we left here very glad that we did. It is on our list of the top ten dining experiences we've had. We selected one of the two tasting menus being offered that night, and had it paired with wine. The food was superb and the wines were perfect pairings. The service was top... More

8 course tasting menu consisted of 4 disjointed courses (A single oyster, A cup of yogurt, A single muscle, A 2x4 cm paper thin slice of lamb, followed by 4 deserts. Wine pairing started with a cheap local white, followed by sake, then a decent red, and ending with an undrinkable sauterne. For a $600 tab...one would have expected more... More

Dinner is an eight course affair with plenty of extras thrown in. Our friends thought it was one of the best meals they ever had and raved about the lamb. This is a molecular food style restaurant where nearly every course has to be explained and no doubt is the result of a great deal of work. It was a... More

The food and service at Aubergine are beyond reproach, albeit costly. Good spot for an extravagant special occasion (Hostess remembered our visit a year before and inquired whether this too was a special occasion). The plates on which the warm dishes were served could have been warmer (small portions cool very quickly on lukewarm plates). The restaurant includes a 20%... More

Lovely little restaurant in Carmel. The chef's tasting menu was good and for an additional charge, there are wine pairings for each course. The food was beautifully presented and was perfectly cooked. The server asks if you have any allergies before the service starts. There is a wide assortment of fish, fois gras, beef, vegetables, lamb, and more. Service was... More

This restaurant has a young, brilliant executive chef who creatively executes seasonal dishes. Every bite is scrumptious, and the presentation of each dish elicited gasps of pleasure from my husband and myself. They happily and deliciously accommodated our food desires and limitations (I am practically vegan and my husband loves everything). The wine selections and pairings are truly excellent, and... As an initial matter, I'll say that the understated coziness and intimacy of the restaurant is a big plus. The ambience is definitely one for special and/or romantic occasions. Second, the food was cooked well and innovatively and beautifully plated. This shouldn't be surprising given the price and the cornucopia of farm-fresh summer ingredients to work with at the height... More

It was a terrible 3 hour experience except for the cute couple sitting next to us. No ambience at all. They had told us twice we were confirmed for 8:00pm, then called at 7:45pm to tell us our reservation was 7pm. We thought we were going to eat French food but were served California Fusion or Asian. Woke up in... More
