The 7-course tasting menu was fabulous, elegantly prepared and presented. Amazing combining of ingredients for unique dishes. Oysters, lamb, veal, kamachi, and many more. The service was excellent, and staff were very knowledgable and welcoming. What a treat to be invited into the kitchen, to meet the chef d'cuisine, and have him sign the menu. One of our top ten... This is an excellent restaurant. But beware, if you opt for the supplement, you are easily nudging close to The French Laundry territory in terms of price. The portion of the tasting menu is on the small size, especially given the number of courses offered. The food was excellent. Very creative especially if you like fresh seafood (ie Uni, oysters,... Food & Wine named chef Justin Cogley "Best New Chef for 2013" so in the waning days of 2013, we decided to see what this best new chef could do. To begin with, as other reviewers have mentioned, Aubergine requires a copy of your credit card in advance and practically a signed affidavit that you'll show up at your reserved... More

We went to L'Aubergine (ie, the Eggplant) for New Years Eve Dinner. The process started with a reservation backed by a credit card (okay so far) and then followed by a signed agreement that we had to send in to reserve our table. Huh? Seemed a bit more absurd after we arrived as the place was half empty. To be... More

L'Auberge Carmel was without doubt one of the finest dining experiences surpassing other Relais and Chateau restaurants from Carmel, CA north to the Napa Valley and we dined at most of them in May 2012. The service was exceptional and the meal and its presentation outstanding. We had the prix fixe menu with wine pairing and it was fabulous. Unless... More

As a man blessed to eat out 300 nights a year I have had the pleasure to objectively experience all sorts of restaurants. Unfortunately not all experiences are pleasurable. Carmel needs the place that Aubergine aspires (but misses) to be. It was like Pluto from the Sun, when one thinks about what Carmel deserves. My grievances here begin with service... More

My wife and I decided to share an intimate Christmas Eve dinner at the Aubergine à L'Auberge in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Having enjoyed several Relais et Châteaux in France, we were looking forward to a delightful evening of haute cuisine, a good bottle of wine, and the pleasure of dining together in an intimate setting full of holiday spirit. When we entered... More

Just came back from Thanksgiving Dinner @ L'Auberge Carmel. $305 for two price fix TOT (only one glass of wine). Staff were all over the place, tripping on each other but not coordinated. We had to ask for bread 3 times before it was served. By that time the scallops and sauce were cold. Food was generally over salted. No... More

Wonderful, japanese inspired cuisine executed to perfection by a fantastic team in the kitchen, who are perfectly complemented by a first class front of house. What a delight to find a set menu restaurant that was willing to accommodate dietary requirements with enthusiasm rather than the usual disdain. One of the finest dining experiences we have ever had.

Two weeks ago my wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. We had been saving up our visit to Aubergine as we knew it was a special place and this was the night. We were not disappointed. Truly exceptional food, wine pairing and elegant although not ostentatious decor. This was the best dining experience we have had outside of... More
