It is hard to understand how Aubergine is rated only 28 in TripAdvisors for restaurants in Carmel. I'm the first to agree that I'm not an export on Carmel but I have eaten in many of the wonderful restaurants and feel that something is not working for the TripAdvisors rating system. In any case my wife and I celebrated our... More

Tiny, but warm and comfortable, this is a pull-out-the-stops kind of restaurant. We dined here on our anniversary and it was really special. The Tasting Menu is worth the adventure if you have the time. In addition to the listed elements, we were sent several more surprises from the kitchen. The Red Abalone and the Cheese course (different than we'd... More

We had the eight course meal and wine pairing dinner last December. The most memorable dish was the Miyasaki Steak, all other dishes were wonderful too. Love the service and the comfort of the dinning room. Will be back again when we are in the area.

I've eaten at plenty of Michelin starred restaurants and this restaurant is absolutely deserving of a star. Delicious, really innovative, interesting food. Beautifully presented, fantastic service - not cheap of course but a really special wonderful experience. Worth a visit to Carmel alone, totally wonderful.

Came across this place seeking to use the bathroom and hotel wifi and asked if we could get in on Saturday. We snagged the last reservation at 8:45pm Then I started to read reviews online of which some were not very complimentary. I had no clue what to expect but planned on the chefs 8 course tasting menu with reset... More

The 7-course tasting menu was fabulous, elegantly prepared and presented. Amazing combining of ingredients for unique dishes. Oysters, lamb, veal, kamachi, and many more. The service was excellent, and staff were very knowledgable and welcoming. What a treat to be invited into the kitchen, to meet the chef d'cuisine, and have him sign the menu. One of our top ten... This is an excellent restaurant. But beware, if you opt for the supplement, you are easily nudging close to The French Laundry territory in terms of price. The portion of the tasting menu is on the small size, especially given the number of courses offered. The food was excellent. Very creative especially if you like fresh seafood (ie Uni, oysters,... Food & Wine named chef Justin Cogley "Best New Chef for 2013" so in the waning days of 2013, we decided to see what this best new chef could do. To begin with, as other reviewers have mentioned, Aubergine requires a copy of your credit card in advance and practically a signed affidavit that you'll show up at your reserved... More

We went to L'Aubergine (ie, the Eggplant) for New Years Eve Dinner. The process started with a reservation backed by a credit card (okay so far) and then followed by a signed agreement that we had to send in to reserve our table. Huh? Seemed a bit more absurd after we arrived as the place was half empty. To be... More

L'Auberge Carmel was without doubt one of the finest dining experiences surpassing other Relais and Chateau restaurants from Carmel, CA north to the Napa Valley and we dined at most of them in May 2012. The service was exceptional and the meal and its presentation outstanding. We had the prix fixe menu with wine pairing and it was fabulous. Unless... More
