Worth the wait

There is always a wait but it is worth it. Great lunches, espresso drinks (esp the mochas and I'm extremely picky!), and backery items. The two things that didn't impress were the huevos rancheros and the breakfast sandwiches which had too much bread-stuff and not enough filling it. We remedied... read more

When you walk into this place you're going to think about turning around and leaving due to the monstrous crowd inside, but within 30 seconds you'll see they have a great, fast moving system and you will be attended to in no time. The only catch will be snagging a table, as there are so many people. The food is... More

So many choices. Everything is fresh and flavorful. It's a good thing I am only visiting here, or I would be in big trouble! Was with a business group. We all tried different things, and everyone was happy with their selections. (Now, when does that happen!) Very crowded at lunch time, but the staff is efficient.

They have a lot of selections of different types of food service is pretty good for how busy they get but I'm not comfortable spending the money that they ask for a lot of the items so I usually don't go there and I don't live too far from this place. I am more than sure they'll never lower the... More

Each year I go to Santa Cruz/Capitola to celebrate my birthday. Over those weekends I go to Gayle's 2-3 times. Great, healthy food. Meals pre-made for take out. Oh, & the bakery is out of this world! Plus there's a coffee bar with espresso drinks, frozen lemonade, etc. Check out Gayle's-it's a Capitola institution.

Our absolute favorite place to start off our day when visiting the Monterey Bay from our home in Silicon Valley. The freshest pastries and cozy atmosphere makes this the place to go for breakfast or dinner for both locals and visitors. Try their seasonal pies. If you are lucky the apples may be in season and you can get the... More

Amazing selection of baked goods and counter food covering everything from hot plate items to fresh wraps and salads. Seems there is no wrong choice here and the only problem is making a decision. If you're looking for someplace to find fresh tasty food instead of the traveler's same-old standbys, this is it. I'd recommend grabbing some things for a... More

When I tell people that I live in Capitola, everyone mentions Gayles. Yes, it's as good as everyone says. The bread, baked goods , sandwiches and blue plate specials are always excellent. The lines are often long but the servers are very attentive and work the crowd quickly. You can take out or eat in their covered patio. They post... More

The service is incredible. We were a group of 8. The person waiting on U.S. said let me one more person help. Very nice. The breads are wonderful and such a wonderful selection. The sandwiches all looked wonderful. Mine was wonderful with seed bread. Coffee bar is wonderful. Lots of seating

Gayle's is legendary among locals, mainly for their pastries, pies and cakes, but it's also a popular spot for lunch or to get some dinner to take home. Take a look around and decide what you want, take a ticket with a number and wait for your number to be called is how it works. It's a bit confusing at... More
