Legendary Pea Soup and Gift Shoppe

Nice staff at a fancified coffee shop. Good food, decently prepared. Oh my the Gift Shop was a complete throwback to the 1960's. Think of any kind of souvenir and they've got it. Yes, I bought three magnets.

We love this place! It's like using a time machine. It is the same today as it was the first we walked in, in 1971. The food is always good. The pea soup is a winner! Just beware of the after effects... If you get my drift! Enjoy!

We ordered pea soup of course....very average. The restaurant was a walk back in the past. Very cool. We are of Danish decent and it was fairly authentic. Overall.... just average.

World famous split peas soup and this from someone who hates peas but I love, love their soup. Service can be hit and miss over the years but this last time the manager seemed to be on top of everything. Had good food and service.

The first time we stopped here was in 1966 before we were married when were on our college spring break. We have been back many times when we take Hwy 101 between LA and the Bay Area. Typically, we order the traveler's special which is all the split pea soup you can eat, pumpernickel bread, and a drink which usually... More

Always have to eat here when in the area! Besides the pea soup, the fried chicken is very good, as is the yummy burger topped with onion straws. Kids enjoy the milkshakes with their meal. Be sure to visit the gift shop on your way out. May I suggest a bottle of Honey Mead Wine along with some cheese and... More

They have a travelers special all the pea soup you can eat coffee and pumpernickel and other breads. You can order extra toppings for a charge and definitely order the 5 toppings onions, ham, cheese, bacon because they are what makes it so good. I didn't like the bread tasted stale. It is a cute place with a huge gift shop and a... More

..It is exactly the same as I remember it from my childhood. There used to be a lot of these up and down the coast of California, and there are only 2 left now!!! You must stop! The décor looks like it is from the 1950s. The wait staff is super polite and reminds me of waiters from back in... More

So guess what we had? Right. My wife got the bread bowl and got the soup and salad and strawberry milk shake with scads of fresh strawberries in it. Go upstairs and read up on the history of Buellton. Just the old pictures of Gaviota Pass are worth climbing the stairs. Take your time here. It's a lot of history.
