I came for the bread. Yes it was crowded, and i might add that the people buying stuff were the problem.. most very pushy and rude.. The bread was soooo good (got the extra sourdough and the bacon cheese) I was passing through so stopped, hadn't read the reviews yet just heard about it from friends. I thought the staff... More

Driving down the "main drag" in Bishop we saw this bakery and decided to stop in. It is above and beyond a bakery. It is floor to ceiling baked goods.. As we were passing thru we just decided to pick up a couple loaves of bread. One, their specialty and one asiago cheese bread. Both delicious.

After two days of solitariness backpacking and camping in nearby Little Lakes Valley, the throngs of people inside and outside of Erick Schat’s Bakkery were an affront to our senses, but that turkey sandwich [on award-winning Shepherd's bread] was damn tasty. If I had been fully re-acclimated to people, I could have spent some serious time [and gained some serious... More

This is definitely a tourist trap, not sure what all the hype is. The bread is good but the pastries and cookies were not good. They tasted stale and flavorless. I am sure they used it be real good but I think they lost their original vision. It's a shame. We will not return.

We picked up some sandwiches and other goodies from here to take on the road. They were delicious. Could have spent a fortune on the massive selection of cakes, biscuits etc but we were good.

It's bigger than i thought! They have all kind of bread to choose from. they open at 6 AM ...means that you can buy your coffee and breakfast. We might want to stock up before driving to LA.

We parked our trailer in J Diamond RV and Mobile Home Park just behind Schat's so it's just a short walk. The place is always busy, there is so much bread and pastry it is difficult to restrain oneself. You have to be prepared to stand in line to pay and on a weekend there is a queue to get... More

Erik Schat's Bakery is excellent. We seem to always stop to get some bread and cookies when we are in Bishop at Erick Schat's Bakery. IT is so good - It is one of the best bakeries around so well worth the time to stop if you want to stock up for that Eastern Sierra vacation trip. Service is nice;... More

A stop at Schat's Bakkery is a must for anyone travelling through Bishop on 395 and is oftentimes a highlight of the drive. Back in the day they were famous amongst local fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts for their sheepherder bread and cinnamon rolls. With the growth in traffic thanks to the increasing popularity of Mammoth they have since expanded to... More
