I came here to look for German bread and did not find it. There is a large amount of bread choices, just not the right one for me. So that was disappointing. They have some very tempting pastry items, not cheap, but the one I bought was good.

This place makes Bishop. No other way to say it. Best breads, sandwiches, and a pastry and candy display that I wish I could have tried. The veggie sandwich uses Gouda cheese which was like a revelation to me, it was amazing! Everything from coffees to gelato to jams, it's ALL here!

This is very popular, busy, packed place and the sandwiches we had were very good. The cookie they gave us was disappointingly dry. What disturbed us was a sense that the Schat's family runs and controls the whole town and a distrust of the public was prevalent. The "Do not take photos/videos inside" was a shame, they opened each soft... More

The breads are very good and so are the sweet pastries and desserts BUT the roasted turkey sandwich is not to be missed! Get your sandwich and high-tail it away from the crowds for a relaxing picnic at the great old timey park across the street. Have been eating turkey sandwiches since a little girl back in the 50s! No... More

Trip to Yosemite, by way of the East side of the Sierra, up Tioga Road into Tuolumne Meadows high country. Made it to Bishop around lunch time and stopped at Schat's for a sandwich -- absolutely the best Turkey Club I have ever had, hands down. Everything really fresh, the bread alone was over the top good. Don't miss this... More

This is the largest bakery I have ever seen. We purchased over $60 worth of bread for our labor day event in Rock Creek and every bit of it was eaten. My favorite is the jalapeno cheese bread sticks. Mild and tasty, even the grand kids liked. Also bought the tuna and turkey salad and they were very good.

We always stop to buy their chileno cheese bread - love it! All their bread is good, but we like this one for its kick. They make good sandwiches, too! It can be quite busy with parking hard to find so go during the week if you can.

Stopped here today on our way to Mammouth Lakes with Titan Tours and was delighted by Eric Schats bakery. The Santa sandwich was wonderful and my favourite almond horse shoe cake was delicious. We had the best cup of coffee since arriving in USA, couldn't fault the service or food. The amazing displays of bread, cakes, preserves were very impressive.... More
