Yes, we all know Schat's for the bread. And the pastries, gelato, candy, jerky, preserves and so on. But have you tried their sandwiches? Oh my....I had a mule kick, which is roast beef with spicy mustard and jalapenos. It was the best roast beef I have ever had--not one bit of fat on it, and very tasty. It came... more

My family and I travel up the 395 nearly every year, and Schat's is always on the list of places to stop. In fact, we stop once on the way up to stalk up for our camping trip bread needs and once on the way back to get some for home. I've never had better bread. In response to the... more

We always stop at this place while coming back from Mammoth. In the past, we would only buy the bread. But now the main reason is to pick up a freshly made sandwich (turkey w/swiss on wheat). The best tasting turkey sandwich I had ever had. more

I stop at the bakery every time I drive up to Lake Tahoe. I order the same thing...turkey on sourdough (no mustard). The turkey is fresh and moist. The coconut macaroons are good too. This place is always crowded but worth the wait. However, do not buy the pre-made sandwiches in the deli case. They are definitely not as good... more

This place always seems to be the rave with locals here in Yosemite. Folks always bring me back some of the bread or cookies over the last 6 years. But, honestly, I don't get the draw of this place, other than it is so far away from other bakeries in our remote area in Yosemite that anything is good? The... more

With all due respect to previous writers my opinion of this "Authentic German Bakery" is not positive. I worked in the baking business a long time with Stroehmann Bakeries. Additionally, I was based in Germany for many years and certainly enjoyed the traditional bakery products there. This establishment makes far too many mistakes. For example: They manufacture and display so... more
