If there was a tour that covered the very best of California, Schat's Bakkery would be a mandatory stop. Not only does it have some of the most delicious and varied bakery items in the world, it's a veritable museum chock full of quirky sights. It's basically a sin not to stop here on your way to or from Mammoth.... More

We always stop here when passing through Bishop for great tasting sandwiches made on their own bread. The BLT on sourdough is good. You can have yours tailored to exactly what you want. Big large sandwiches about $7.95 & half sandwich about $4.98. Also sweets and ice cream available.

Spent three days/nights in Bishop on a birdwatching trip in the area. Spent several visits to this wonderful establishment. We stopped and had their turkey and roast beef sandwiches made for our daily lunches, bought their to die for apple strudelraisin whole (had as breakfast at our motel) and we returned home with three loaves of their freshly baked breads.... We just popped in for some snacks for the car but we're going back today for sandwiches for a picnic. Beef jerky, cookies, fresh baked breads & muffins, coffee and more, this place has it!

I have never had a better turkey sandwich in my life than they make at this bakery. They use their wonderful Sheepherder bread and slice the turkey right off the bird for each sandwich. It was incredible. Their pastries are very good also, but their Butter Brickle and Swiss Pecan Kiss Cookies are to die for. We cannot drive past... More

We drive from Reno to Southern California a few times each year and that is how we discovered the Bakery in Bishop. It is now a regular stop in both directions. We have lunch there, buy a few loaves of bread (so many to choose from), a carmel apple and all is good for the rest of the drive.

Clearly a favorite, this place was packed with people wanting to order both pastries and sandwiches. The parking lot was busy and full but there was still room for us to park. Walking inside is a bit overwhelming as you are inundated with smells and merchandise and crowds. Once we figured out where to order, we waited only briefly in... More

This place has a wide variety of specialty breads, jerky and snacks. Being a bread lover - I thought I had made it to Heaven or should I say Bread Heaven. You could tell from the full parking lot how popular this place is.
