This shop sells an enormous range of breads and other baked items as well as delicious sandwiches. There is a small area where they sell coffee and other refreshments together with snacks. The smell of freshly baked bread as you pass is sufficient to draw you into the shop. It really isn't a restaurant but rather somewhere to have a... more

Truly the most magnificent selection of breads, pastries, cakes and preserves. A little overpriced, but that's not surprising, since the quality is definitely way above what you'd expect for a small town establishment. If you're ever passing through Bishop, be sure to stop in. It's on Main Street at Park. more

on the way home; it's just that dog gone good. The breads are what I'm talking about. The extra sour sourdough, the sheep hearders, and most especially - the jalapeno-cheese! round loaves! We never had the sandwiches nor the restrooms ;-) but I'll swear by those wonderful take home breads. They are the best! Will more

We stopped here on the way home from Yosemite. What a pleaseure it was to see the baker's racks loaded with a mindboggling selection of freshly baked bread and treats. The kids were wide-eyed at the racks of loaves taller than all of us. A true spectacle. They know their stuff. Samples atop countertops, sweets, jarred jams and condiments. Stop... more

if you want to wait in long lines, wind your way between narrow aisles and simple be crowded then by allmeans go here. You can get better sandwiches at Vons, and the Mahogany deli, both in a much more congenial atmosphere. more

I've been visiting the Bishop area for many years. Schat's has been around a long time. This place is all hype and a tourist trap. The stuff aint even that good! Oh and for those that don't think the cleanliness of the bathroom's doesn't matter - don't be surprised if your baked goods start tasting a little saltier than usual.... more

Great bakery and love the jerky. People whining about the bathrooms should follow my personal rule: don't go to a bakery for the restrooms and don't go to a restroom for the baked goods. more

We were at Schat's bakery a couple of years ago. Then I had no problem with the restrooms. But... authentic Dutch? No. I originally lived in Artesia CA where the Schat's had the orignal Dutch Bakery(later sold to the Lakeman family). That was authentic Dutch! While they still sell good bread but not the authetic Dutch cookies and pastries. Traveler... more

Our group of friends encountered this bakery on our pit stop on our way to Mammoth over 6 years ago......and it was like finding a treasure in the middle of the snow! It is a tradition to stop there on our way back to LA from Mammoth for lunch and sometimes on the way up to Mammoth if time permits.... more
