A local institution not to be missed

This bakery is packed with locals and visitors alike, and was a great place for us to stop for picnic fare and road trip food. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to dine there, so I can't speak regarding that aspect, except to say that the outdoor patio was packed during brunch time.

If you haven't been here while driving the 395 you must stop at Schat's Bakery in Bishop. What a place especially if you love bread. We ordered made to order sandwiches and navy bean soup....heaven. I had a fresh roasted turkey sandwich; it was huge but I ate every morsel! I wish I could go there every day!

I've been stopping here whenever traveling through Bishop for the last 30 years. A must stop. Great baked goods, and ambiance. Very eclectic Dutch decor. We always end up buying so much bread and pastries, that I eat all of my calories for the whole vacation.

Okay, I believe Schat is correctly pronounced like "shot" but I couldn't resist. I had high expectations before entering this place because I'd read reviews prior to our visit. Nevertheless, it was an overwhelming, euphoric experience like no other. I was in carb/sugar heaven and I could've stayed forever. I made a beeline to the "one day fresh" area and... More

We stopped here on the way home from Mammoth to see if it was as good as they say - We weren't even hungry, but we gobbled everything up because it was so good. My family of 4, and the family of 4 traveling with us all agreed, the fresh bread made the sandwiches taste amazing! We bought a loaf... More

Very different, bread and goodies and sandwiches everywhere. I had a tart for breakfast and it was delicious. NOt a very large eating area, but lots of tables outside. Known for its Sheephearder Bread

Amazing place -- must be 20 kinds of bread! The pastry case looked beautiful, but we did not try any. They even had decorated cookies in the shape of fish. We tried 3 kinds of ready made sandwiches which were all fresh and delicious. Highly recommend a visit.
