We needed to try something different during this stay in Bishop and Yamatani was only a short walk from the Creekside Hotel. I don't have a lot of experience with Japanese food, nor do I like raw fish, but the menu had several items acceptable to those with more conservative taste in dining. I ordered the Katsu Chicken, dipped in... More

I ordered an Arizona roll. The roll was rolled loose and fell apart when I picked it up. The only flavor this roll had was the green onions. I think it was 7 bucks, maybe a bit more which is a joke for a 4 piece roll. Had someone cared how it was prepared and presented it as such then... More

We had never had japanese before and as this was close to our hotel took the opportunity to try. We explained this to the waitress, who after initially advising us on the menu, was not very helpful. No information about the pink & green stuff on the plate - see picture, how we should eat it. We seemed a bit... More

Every time we stay in Bishop, which is very often, we visit Robbie at Yamatani's! The service is always pleasant and eating at the sushi bar is the best seat in the house. There are many new and unique creations made by the owner. Just ask, and something new will come your way. Its a fun place to go, eat... More

The service was friendly and prompt, even though it was a busy night. Food was good, I had a combo dinner of beef tempura, my friend had chicken and tempura. Tempura was light, very tasty. The sauce they drizzled over the beef was very salty. The dinner came with rice, miso soup, and salad. Quite enough to eat and take... More

If you have enjoyed well prepared Japanese food, you will not be impressed. That said, there aren't many choices in Bishop. They tried.

I don't really have anything extraordinary to report about this sushi restaurant; for Bishop it's pretty awesome but compared to my other sushi experiences from around the U.S., this was pretty average. They were incredibly busy during our dinner time visit and the wait time at our table was pretty extreme: about 45 minutes before our rolls hit the table.... More

I have eaten here several times when in Bishop. The food (sushi) has been great each visit. The service has been lacking from time to time but a big tall Kirin beer and large bottle of sake makes the occasional cranky waitress and wait times go away! I found that most of the rolls to be fair priced but a... More

For dinner on Saturday night we went right across the street from our hotel to Yamatani (635 N Main St., Bishop, CA 93514, tel. 760-872-4801). We did not like our server, Michael, and that colored our meal. He forgot things and had attitude, verging on being rude. Dimitri had a Saba Shioyaki meal ($11) meal which was ½ broiled mackerel...
