Japanese Cuisine in Bishop

If someone had told me there was a Japanese restaurant of this quality in Bishop, I'd never had believed it. This place was hopping when we went for dinner. Food was great, service was acceptable. Sushi bar and all. Note: this place is very noisy so can't imagine a romantic, relaxing night out... read more

Excellent Japanese food, unexpected in Bishop. The restaurant has a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, and there are choices for the whole family. I strongly recommend the chicken teriyaki, which comes with some tasty miso soup.

The food is fresh, well-prepared and quite good. The prices are high but so is the quality. My favorites are the sushi, sukiyaki, and tempura. Oddly, even the steamed vegetables are good.

Although the place looks promising on the exterior, the interior is noisy. Despite being less than half full, the staff were overtaxed with a couple of larger groups. The high noise level isn't what one expects in a Japanese restaurant. Some families sat down and left before being served. The food wasn't bad, but the rest of the experience leaves... More

Just look for owner Robbie Tani behind the sushi bar and know that you are in good hands. Great selection of nigiri or rolls. Plenty of entrees for those who want tempura, yakisoba or teriyaki. Service is always friendly and they offer 'Oodles of Noodles' specials during the shoulder seasons. Highly recommended and our go to place.

Nice to see a Japanese restaurant in town. This is a big restaurant with plenty of seats at the sushi counter, bar, or tables. The food was good. Open only for dinner.

Who would of thought of finding very good sushi, sashimi, and tempura in Bishop, Ca. Well it certainly is no secret because this place is hopping during the dinner hour. It can, however be a bit noisy. Wait staff is attentive and friendly and we enjoyed our meal.

We stayed for one day in Bishop, as part of a road trip. We were very hungry and we looked at trip advisor for places to eat. We decide to do some Japanese in this little town in the middle of nowhere. The restaurant outside and inside looks good, have a big parking lot in the back. We wait just... More

Each time we stop over in Bishop to break up the ten hour drive to San Diego we head to Yamatani for sushi and sashimi. We've sought out Japanese cuisine all over the world--and Yamatani rates near the top. The owner prepares your meal from fish flash frozen (nitrogen) flown in from Japan--and the result is the "freshest, cleanest, most... More

We are locals, and before that lived in Mammoth. We used to joke that we couldn't move from Mammoth and move away from Shogun, but with Yamatani's (by the same owner/manager) coming down to Bishop, then we were able to move down the hill. We went last night and had, as we have almost always had, a great experience. We... More
