Nice restaurant

Had dinner here with the wife. Service was reasonably good. Food was good, but much of it is deep fried! I didn't try the sushi or sashimi, it is a little too far from the ocean for me.

We stayed for one day in Bishop, as part of a road trip. We were very hungry and we looked at trip advisor for places to eat. We decide to do some Japanese in this little town in the middle of nowhere. The restaurant outside and inside looks good, have a big parking lot in the back. We wait just... More

Each time we stop over in Bishop to break up the ten hour drive to San Diego we head to Yamatani for sushi and sashimi. We've sought out Japanese cuisine all over the world--and Yamatani rates near the top. The owner prepares your meal from fish flash frozen (nitrogen) flown in from Japan--and the result is the "freshest, cleanest, most... More

We are locals, and before that lived in Mammoth. We used to joke that we couldn't move from Mammoth and move away from Shogun, but with Yamatani's (by the same owner/manager) coming down to Bishop, then we were able to move down the hill. We went last night and had, as we have almost always had, a great experience. We... More

So first, the only negative thing I have to say here is it would be cool if the servers could figure out how to get sushi and other entrees delivered at the same time. Both nights we came here, my girlfriend ordered

In the middle of the desert, halfway between Las Vegas and San Francisco California, surprised to know that there is a Japanese Restaurant offering a taste of Japanese dishes. Ordered Salmon and Beef Teriyaki, Salmon is a little bit done, made it more tough than would have been medium cooked, Beef is ok, refreshing salad, crispy cabbage and just right... More

Visited based on previous reviews. Greeted by an very unfriendly host and served by about 6 different people. Had the Beef Teriyaki. Supposedly sirloin.. The beef was a fatty frying steak with flavourless sauce served with lettuce and rice that had been reheated several times over. On making our views heard the waitress insisted this was how it should be... More

The food was excellent, the atmosphere was a little noisy but the overall experience was nice. The location was perfect - the parking lot is shared with the bowling alley and very close to our motel.

The owner is nice and the waitstaff too. Food is ok, but a bit pricey. The drinks in the bar are outstanding. Best in Bishop.

I love Yamatani's! They have a wonderful menu, service and food. My order always includes the seaweed salad... yum... and tempura veggies. My husband's order always includes something from the sushi bar. It is Bishop casual, very nice interior, and delicious. My only complaint is that they are not open for lunch.
