This was a new experience for us as Japanese food is quite different from other Asian Cuisine. If we ever tried again we would probably stick with the sushi.

On a recommendation from the Looney Bean staff we tried Yamatani for sushi. My ladyfriend and I were somewhat skeptical about the quality and freshness of the fish considering we were in Bishop. All the doubts disappeared when the first plates were delivered: the fish was completely odorless, firm and had great color. Quite a find for a small mountain... More

So....... I did my review a bit prematurely. Here is my amended review. Looked at the on line menu before placing my order. Went to the place and ordered my food. Found out no Udon. So I amended my order. The person told me it would be 10 minutes. 45 minutes later my order was up except my vegetable gyoza.... More

Kind of bummed that they didn't have Udon but the food was tasty. Took the food to go since the hotel was across the street. Definitely worth while when in Bishop.

We ordered a sushi boat, a dinner boat and a Sukiyaki meal ... and we had a really great meal! Even though the place was fully packed (and it is much larger inside than what you would have imagined from the outside), service was efficient and friendly. Well done.

limited menu, the on-going special is a bit hyped and overpriced but not bad. Service a bit slow but good if you wish to relax.

Love the sushi rolls and the sashimi and the chicken. They have a great group boat thing you can order. Tom makes the best drinks anywhere in Bishop

We travel often between Reno and San Diego and usually stop over in Bishop to break up the 10 hour drive. Across the street from our hotel we discovered that the Yamatani restaurant has earned its reputation as truly a Bishop icon. "Established in 1984 by the Tani family, Yamatani has brought the best sushi and Japanese cuisine to California’s... More

We needed to try something different during this stay in Bishop and Yamatani was only a short walk from the Creekside Hotel. I don't have a lot of experience with Japanese food, nor do I like raw fish, but the menu had several items acceptable to those with more conservative taste in dining. I ordered the Katsu Chicken, dipped in... More

I ordered an Arizona roll. The roll was rolled loose and fell apart when I picked it up. The only flavor this roll had was the green onions. I think it was 7 bucks, maybe a bit more which is a joke for a 4 piece roll. Had someone cared how it was prepared and presented it as such then... More
