Heading home through the Bay Area after a weekend road trip we decided to have Mother’s Day lunch at Herbivore in Berkeley. As a vegan mom, I was really excited, and my twin vegetarian boys cheerily agreed to try it along with a few other moms-friends and family. I phoned a few weeks ahead of time to make a reservation... We stopped in here after the lunch rush on a Tuesday. Service was surprisingly slow. We both ordered the Indonesian Noodle Salad. Flavors were nice, but we both commented that the dish was surprisingly unsatisfying. They really skimped on the tofu, greens, etc. The dish was mostly noodles! As we were traveling through, we didn't have the opportunity for a... More

We had a party of four for dinner. Several of us had diet restrictions and the staff was very patient, knowledgeable and accommodating. Aly was our waitress and she was great. I had a plate of grilled veggies that were fresh, flavorful and grilled perfectly. One of us had the ravioli that were cooked proper (not over-cooked) and had fresh... More

First, the wait staff is hilarious. And the food is amazing. You won't be disappointed, unless they're out of something!

We ate breakfast here Sunday morning.. We do not have vegan options where we live, so we were happy to find it open..We tried breakfast burrito, toast, smoothies, pancakes. Everything was excellent, we only wish we could have sampled other items, like the tempeh bacon. Their hash browns were great an spiced up with cayenne. It just feels so good... More

Another reason Carnivores are carnivores. The food of this restaurant is tasteless, grease, and the quality seems pretty bad. Bread served is old and moldy, grilled veggies swimming in oil, veggie burgers patties doughy and not cooked throughout, etc, etc, etc... And finally, the service is unacceptable slow. Plan to wait forever to eat there. This restaurant is a disgrace... More

I'm just glad I didn't read some of these misleading reviews. After passing this place for years, we finally stopped in after our friend recommended it. The service (Ari!), the wonderful smells, the colors, the exquisite tastes, this food was beautiful. I needed something different, healthy, colorful, hearty, and fragrant with that beautiful char to it, and met with our... More

I live in Berkeley, so am very accustomed to local tastes and trends. Never have I had a more bizarre, unsatisfying meal than here. When two of us tried to eat what was set before us at this place we went through several of the Kubler-Ross processes within just a few bites: denial, rage, the whole deal. This wasn't 'inventive';... More

This place is awesome if you're vegan and gluten free. I recently was diagnosed with celiac disease and decided to start fresh with a whole new diet - vegan AND gluten free. Lots of places in the area advertise gluten free (and lots of places don't!) but I've experienced cross contamination at a few of these places but never at... More
