I went with my wife to introduce her to Indonesian food. We got a rijsttafel (sample of 12 different dishes) for two in this small (family owned?)restaurant. Compared to the Indonesian dishes I know the quality of the food was very tasty. The rijsttafel for two was so much that we ended up taking half of it home to enjoy... More

I am Indonesian and I thought the food was OK . I went with my friend and the total price for our food was about $33. We gave $40 and the server did not give back our change assuming we would left the change for tips. Honestly, this is the WORST service in the history of restaurant. How can you... More

Today we enjoyed the kroepoek, chicken satay, tempeh, roti and the loempia. All were very good, lots of satay sauce with everything. Will be back.

Dined here with my daughter who is a UCB student last night. My daughter was raving about this place as being the top rated Indonesian restaurant in the bay area and quoting several great reviews - which raised my expectations about the food and service to begin with. Here is my assessment - fair and square when compared with other... More

We ordered the RIJSTAFFEL which was a sampling of 12 different dishes. Nearly all were outstanding. This choice is a great way to get a wide sampling of all this hole in the wall. We also loved the fried rice. The service was good and friendly. We really enjoyed the meal. It made it onto our short list for return... More

With only one server and sometimes two servers on the floor, I consider its overall service is pretty good. And, a hole in the wall often serves an excellent food; this is true with any kind of cuisine. I love all of their food particularly 'nasi bungkus' special. The durian and the avocado smoothies are also excellent. The bacang, which... More

Under the new ownership, things have changed very little. This is a small place that is almost always packed-- a sure sign of good fresh food. Not to miss are durian and coconut milk shakes, palm sugar chicken, and prata with turmeric dip-- fantastic flavor! They also have a great selection of soups. Also, everyday lunch special is a great... More

We sampled satay, rendang and a chicken curry. The satay was poor, unless you consider peanut butter mix a satay. The rendang was probably the best choice though watery. And the chicken curry was alright except it had a lot of potato in it. This place is cheap and a good spot for students but I'd have to think twice... More

Hello Cooperspale, We are sorry to hear about your experience at Jayakarta Restaurant. Yes it is true. Our food can be hit and miss for some Americans. We are not Asian fusion restaurant. What we sell you literally is what the food you find on the streets of Jakarta (not the fine dining establishments of Jakarta)… but the little garage-like... More

I've gone to Jayakarta for both lunch and dinner and have enjoyed all meals there. They have decent lunch prices; their combo lunch can provide two meals unless you like to eat heavily. My friend suggested I try the coconut rice, which was subtle and delicious. The nasi lemak (sp?) was excellent, and my friend's eggplant dish was also very... More

When you are looking for an affordable and authentic Indonesian cuisine, look no further... JAYAKARTA is the place. However, do not expect service as it is like any other in cheap Asian restaurant. But they are friendly enough to me. They should improve their cleanliness tho. Still, I will take my friends there over BOROBUDUR restaurant in the city.
