A taste of NOLA on Left Coast

As said by others, Angeline's is a bit pricey. Bowl of mediocre gumbo was overpriced for small serving. Fried grits with etouffee was fantastically delicious & worth every penny. The bananas foster bread pudding was indulgently rich with perfect balance of sweetness. Conveniently located near the... read more

The bananas foster bread pudding was indulgently rich with perfect balance of sweetness. Conveniently located near the Downtown "University" BART station. Great food in a lively room. Exposed brick walls, casual tables and chairs. Professional service. No liquor license, but delicious beer and reasonably priced wine and unique sodas. Started with hush puppies - a little firm, but tasty with accompanying butter. BBQ shrimp starter was amazing - the sauce was so delicious we requested more bread to soak it all... More

I came in for dinner alone, about 30 minutes before closing. I chose to sit at the bar. I loved the low lighting, and the music was soothing. I had a cup of gumbo and the shrimp po'boy sandwich. Gumbo was good (not my mom's but that's not a fair comparison) and the po'boy was very tasty. The servers were... More

It was soulful and a great vibe in the restaurant. Hush puppies were the best I have ever had. Our entrees were the wild mushroom jumbulaya, and the shrimp creole with very fresh tasting green beens.

We really enjoy going to Angeline's whenever we go to Berkeley (Cal being the alma mater for my spouse and me both). Parking is a bit chancy, but we always manage to find a place not too far away. But the food is worth it. This is authentic (having visited NOLA before), and while we have had the Po-boys, our... More

Great location and food was good. Great tasting hush puppies. The entree serving portion size is adequate, likely won't have extra for taking home.

To start, I should point out that I'm a chef who trained in Southern kitchens in Charleston, SC, so I'm no stranger to southern food! We stopped into this place because a restaurant up the street was closed on Sundays. Ordered a little cross-section of dishes: Hush Puppies (perfect texture, not soggy like some), Mac & Cheese, Brussels Sprouts (a... More

I love New Orleans food. This restaurant is pretty good making southern comfort food. Gator bites is part of the special menu. Unfortunately we only got 10 tiny pieces of bites, so that was a disappointment. Otherwise this place is pretty good. If you want the bread pudding make sure you have the time cause that takes about 25 min... More

After a long day walking and seeing the sights, we went to Angeline's for a bite to eat. We ordered Mac n cheese with bacon. It was delicious. The serving size was huge. Our waiter was knowledgeable and courteous. Thank you!
