Worthy of the buzz. Often simple food, fresh and usually organic and locally sourced, with elegant interpretations and appealing presentation. Ah, the famed Berkeley landmark. We had lunch in the café. Good food at high end prices with excellent service and a nice atmosphere. Everything was presented beautifully and tasted fabulous. I am not going to say it was the best food on our trip but it was close. The problem with California is that you can wonder into some... More

I haven't been to Chez Panisse cafe for several years and was looking forward to it. Everything was fine as it relates to service and the ambience is pleasant and relaxed as I remembered it. The food however is really quite standard and a bit boring / bland lacking any flavor. It was quite undistinguished in the food area (which... More

This is elegant cooking in the gourmet ghetto of Berkeley. The service is uber-polished. Yet, my favorite item was a singular pluot for dessert.

While on a visit to The Crucible in Oakland, we decided to eat lunch (late) and went over to Chez Panisse. This may be the best way to try the Cafe.(no anticipation, no dissapointment). It was approaching 2:30. Our party of 5 waited a few minutes and were seated near the "open kitchen." We did not find the kitchen noise... More

Believe the hype: this really is one of the best restaurants in the world. I have been coming here for decades, both upstairs at the cafe and downstairs at the main restaurant, and I have never had a bad meal. The service, the experience, the ambiance all make this one of the best culinary experiences you can have. Book well... More

Haven't eaten here in over 10 years. It's still awesome. Food is fresh, tasty, creative and textures abound. This was spur of the moment lunch upstairs in cafe. We downed a bottle of Tempier Rose imported by Alice's pal Kermit, washing down numerous courses including: corn and summer squash soup, fresh garden lettuces, plates if olives and anchovies, pizza and... Dining at Chez Panisse was a first choice since we had not been there for over 10 years. Curious to experience any new change, we planned being there for my son and daughter's in law anniversary celebration. Lucky with parking, we were greeted by Adan our server, an experienced dining guide who offered us a sparkling cocktail. The first course... More
