Fresh and Fantastic service

We have been going to Chez Panisse for many years. In the last few years, the service stayed consistently excellent, but the food was less inspired. We returned to find a new oomph and freshness. There are many, many excellent restaurants in the East Bay (Berkeley/Oakland) area. Glad to see that the chefs are still trying.

Food, service were excellent. Amazing dining experience to celebrate my daughter/s mother in law's 75th birthday.

This review is for the upstairs cafe at Chez Panisse. The food here is definitely good, as is the service. It can be very noisy, depending on your neighbors. We could not have a conversation, unless we screamed across the table. The food was fresh, simple , a bit bland and less costly than the downstairs restaurant. The dessert was... More

Okay, everyone know about this place because of Alice Waters. I was here on a date...and let's just say I was NOT impressed by the restaurant. Let me count the ways... 1) Portions - Really? I know that at these fancy restaurants you're typically served fairly small portions over a few courses, but let's just say that we ended up... More

I was taken to the "downstairs" full fixed price restaurant the night that it opened in 1969. Since then I've eaten at the cafe, upstairs, several times. The food is organic and locally grown and cooked with excellence. It is very simple but a treat. On oddity is that the price includes a 17% "service charge." This would be fine... More

We are foodies so this was a natural stop for dinner. The staff was friendly, and very professional, making superb recommendations to help us with food choices and wine selection. The setting is pleasant and warm with the craftsman architecture and woodpaneled rooms. The prices, while high, were not as bad as we expected and are common for big-city restaurants on... More

If you are in San Francisco please take the time to book a table in Berkeley at this cafe Our expectations were high and we were prepared to be disappointed To our delight the Chez Panisse was beyond our experience anywhere for lunch The menu selections were varied and we chose carefully The asparagus salad had a delicate mustard vinaigrette... While on business in Berkely, my wife made reservations at this restaurant. We were able to easily drive from our hotel over to the address and found parking on a side street. It is quite a busy area, even on a Tuesday night, and very trendy. We were not able to get a table downsatirs, so we ate upstairs in... More

We have eaten at the upstairs cafe on a number of occasions, both lunch and dinner, and have always had wonderful meals. Since two of us were having birthdays, we decided to celebrate and eat in the downstairs restaurant. It was everything we expected and more, starting with the impeccable service. Our wait person was prompt, friendly and helpful, but... More

Had dinner with friends here on Febr 20. One of my friends had been working at Chez Panisse about ten years ago and her recommendation led to expectations that was fulfilled. We had four different entrés and four different main courses. We changed plates and tasted everything. All was delightful. Check for this and a couple of beers, and one... More
