Awesome as always

It must be the air in Berkeley. I have dined here for years and never ever had a bad meal or experience. It is consistently the best restaurant in the years. The food, the wine, the service, the ambience - everything is impeccable. This week I dined at the Cafe. Nothing was left on the plates. If I... read more

This was a dinner to be remembered! Two couples, fine dining. Megan our server most helpful with the wine selection to match up with our meal and was totally professional through out the dinner experience. Enough can't be said about the meal; salted black cod fritters, short ribs, orange gelato. Outstanding! We surely hope to return.

We really enjoyed everything we were served and the service was also very good. This is a restaurant we choose when we are celebrating.

I am a decent cook and I also eat out frequently. Chez Panisse Cafe offers dishes that use the freshest ingredients and prepares them to accentuate their flavors. The dishes look deceivingly simple, but it is a challenge to reproduce them at home, as creating the right balance of seasoning, perfect ingredients and cooking takes a lot of practice. The... More

While it is always a treat to go to Chez Panisse, I much prefer the cafe upstairs. I have found the food more interesting, and the restrictions of the downstairs menu can be problematic if, for example, you don't eat meat. I would think they would have a planned substitution dish for those who don't eat, for example quail, but... More

Chez Panisse captures the simple magic of natural ingredients in a beautiful but unpretentious atmosphere that reflects the cultural history of Berkeley. A magnet for the community, it's authentic in every way.

I think the title says it all. If you're visiting Berkeley, then going to Chez Panisse is a must because it's such an institution. However, I recommend eating at their garden cafe rather than the main restaurant (one is upstairs the other is downstairs; I forget which is which), as the cafe is a bit cheaper.

Fantastic food, creatively prepared and presented. While pricey, there'd is nothing like the Chez Panisse experience. Cozy, intimate and charming.

I've traveled all over the world and up until going to Chez Panisse, I thought my favorite restaurant was in Milan... Now Berkeley. If this is your first time - do as we did and ask the waiter for suggestions - he was spot on. Living in NY in the dead of winter it is very hard to describe the... More

For many years I heard about this restaurant in Berkeley...I was really disappointed in their food and service. We had a party of 8 downstairs, the ambiance downstairs is lovely. The menu of the day was nothing special to write home about....the soup was a bit insipid, the roasted meat was only warm, the dessert was a sugar doughnut filled... More
