Saul's is ranked far too low on this list. It is the best place in Berkeley for breakfast. Lunch is also great - try the Reuben with the fantastic pickles - but for breakfast it simply cannot be beaten, which is why people wait in line for 20 minutes on busy Saturdays. I wish we had an authentic Jewish delicatessen in the Berkeley area, and Saul's used to be, but what a disappointment. The service was awful, the bread on the corned beef sandwich was stale, the New York cheesecake was dry, crumbly and stale, the after-dinner espresso was served in a giant coffee cup. Hard to believe it was as bad... more

Good but over priced. Fun place for a brunch gathering. Cannot compare to 2nd Ave Deli in NY, but then again 2nd Ave set the bar way too high. more

We've only had the pleasure of eating at Saul's twice, while visiting the area, but we could happily have every meal there for the rest of our lives. Everything we had (pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, pickles, cole slaw, desserts) was died-and-gone-to-heaven delicious!
