A renewed fan

Well, smack me upside the head with a bagel. I live in Berkeley, and it took until early 2016 to revisit Saul's after I don't know how long. The interior has been painted since then, and the signs removed (I do miss the NY subway sign). But I care more about the food, which was terrific. I used to... read more

Shortly after we were seated the waitress dropped off a small plate with three dill pickles, each a different type. For me this was a fantastic start. Don't get me wrong, I love chips & salsa but three really good pickles? Nice. I decided to go all out and get a pastrami sandwich. You haven't lived until you've had a... More

Technically, Saul's is not a kosher, NY style delicatessen. It's more like a local, Berkeley restaurant serving Jewish comfort food. But, the food is really good and in my opinion the quality of their smoked meats has significantly improved over the years. Saul's chicken matzoh ball soup comes close to what I remember my Grandmother used to make and that... More

You can't go wrong any time of the day with Saul's Everything is better than you could make yourself. The food is all the well know dishes you'd probably heard of or your mom's mom used to make. Great stuff.

The food is really good and the meats are organic or free of hormones, whenever possible. They sell and serve the best bagels outside NY. The service is terrific, and it's easy to find parking nearby. The Matzoh Ball Soup is wonderful.

I went to Saul's for breakfast this morning. I had their deli hash with a soft poached egg on it, it was fabulous. My daughter had their french toast which looked really good and came with Maple syrup. The last time i was here was over a year ago and it is just as good as before. Always worth having... More

Been going to Saul's whenever we are in Berkeley area. It ok for Matzo Ball Soup and meat sandwiches but can't compare to Montreal or NY deli fare.

Sauls was a wonderful experience, so much so that we went back a second timwe during our 4 day stay. It is everything I missed from the old neighborhood in NY, with a California twist: fresh locally sources ingredients, farm to table! The staff was absolutely wonderful as was the food. Highly recommend for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

A friend had told me about Saul's so I had to try it out. I ordered the Half and Half, which consisted of corned beef and pastrami. Having tried many east coast delis, I had high expectations. Imagine my surprise when I brought it home and saw how small it was compared to what I'm used to. Saul's prices were... More
