Look to the cookie!

Great authentic Jewish fare, and the baked goods couldn't be beat - the black-and-white cookie was a major Seinfeld nostalgia trip, and the hamentashen and rugelach were fantastic. The lunch was great, too, but for me it's always about the baked goods!

Sauls was a wonderful experience, so much so that we went back a second timwe during our 4 day stay. It is everything I missed from the old neighborhood in NY, with a California twist: fresh locally sources ingredients, farm to table! The staff was absolutely wonderful as was the food. Highly recommend for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

A friend had told me about Saul's so I had to try it out. I ordered the Half and Half, which consisted of corned beef and pastrami. Having tried many east coast delis, I had high expectations. Imagine my surprise when I brought it home and saw how small it was compared to what I'm used to. Saul's prices were... More

Good food. Service a bit slow and a tad pricey for a deli. Pancakes were best dish on the table. Egg salad sandwich was tasty, too. Turkey schmurkey was a bit dry. Overall, good quality food but can be steep for a family. Yummy coffee

Had their soup for lunch and dinner, several days in a row. The matzoh Balls are perfectly done. One night we had fried trout...beautifully served. Highly recommend, this is the best deli in the San Francisco Bay Area.

They had me with the pickles placed on the table. Bagels and lox. Reuben. Did I mention the pickles?

Every few years I go back to Saul's to see whether it's improved. Being from the Bronx, I would love to have a good delicatessen here in Berkeley. This time I had just a light lunch with a fried -- a sliced turkey sandwich on rye with green salad and iced tea. The turkey was tasteless. The salad was ok... More

went here after seeing the movie: Deli Man. was going in with lowered expectations after seeing mouth watering pictures of some of the most famous delis in America. but we were very impressed with our meal at Saul's: good pastrami, liked the matzo ball soup, very satisfying stuffed cabbage roll, complimentary pickle plate and liked our server as well.

One of the things I dislike about New York delicatessens is the huge portions. Either food gets wasted or I feel sick from each eating too much. At Saul's you can get half portions and the food is much healthier than the average deli. Try everything - you won't be disappointed.

In the Berkeley's "Gourmet Ghetto", along with Chez Panisse, Cesar, Acme Bread, etc, is Saul's Deli, an it is good! On a Saturday afternoon, the was a line, you give your name to the hostess, and wait. I twas crowded but we waited no more than 10 minutes. They give you three pickles m, that they make, to "taste" while... More
