Took some visiting friends to Zatar for dinner and they were very pleased. Although menu is small, food was very good and flavors authentic. We loved the hummus and calamari. I had the vegetarian tagine and really liked. The kefta kebab was also a big hit. The ambience is quaint and cozy. We were too full for dessert but will... More

Had a lunch with a cup of lentil do up and a small plate of grilled lamb with hummus and rice. The lamb was very tasty but the portion was very small -3 pc. The place took cash only and lunch for 1 came to $25.00 with a tip . I felt it was very overpriced for the size and... More

My sweetheart and I reserved a table for Zatar's three course Valentine's Day dinner. We had ample choices of each course: he went for the fish options, starting with a crab, grapefruit and avocado salad and continuing with a tagine of butterfish. I ordered lamb dolmas and "the leg sampler," which included pieces of roast leg of lamb and lamb... More

We so enjoyed our dinner: started with warm olives with herbs, grilled Monterey squid [smoky with a touch of lemon], and I had the butterfish tagine--sooo tender and fresh, with rich spices and vegetables homegrown from the owners' half acre plot. Hubby had duck in film pastry--he's pretty picky, but he loved it. Grilled peaches with honey and a pistachio baklava... More

This atmospheric restaurant has excellent, knowledgeable service, and the food is beyond excellent, with beautiful, exotic and subtle flavours. If I ever get to Berkeley again I won't hesitate to return; it's worth a ride on the BART if you're in San Francisco. I suggest starting with the mezza smapler, with a variety of flavours. But next time I'll move... More

Wonderful family run restaurant with great service. Had a wonderful meal, starting with tasty sangria; had delicious fresh veggies from their garden and meals to die for. Also a ridiculously rich and scrumptious poached pear and wine dessert with homemade gelato. Overall, a fabulous meal from start to finish.

This Berkeley hideaway is small but the food is great and service is also. Friendly staff prepare middle eastern food with panache. Since it's small, it can at times be busy, but you can call ahead to find out whether they are able to seat you soon. It's worth a trip.

Four of us had dinner at this small restaurant on a Thurs. night several weeks ago. The place was just about empty at 7:00 p.m., which bothered us a bit going in. However, we'd been told it was good. And it turned out to be. The middle eastern food was very tasty. My wife had just returned from several weeks... More

They have many dishes I had not seen elsewhere with some very good fish and chicken choices. I recommend the pureed pepper and pomegranite appetizers. Don't forget to ask them about their special homemade alcool free cocktails the mint lemonade is just wonderful as is the pomegranite spritzer. Beware, the restaurant is tiny so you need to call ahead of... More

This is not a fusion-california interpretation restaurant. It strives to be authentic and all about the food, and it is. I think this is the smallest restaurant I've ever been to - and on a cold Berkeley winter night, every time the door opened we all felt the rush of cold air - yet it had atmosphere nevertheless. The food... More
