This is a wonderful place to get Indian food in the East Bay. They have a wide variety of very tasty Indian specialties and have a friendly staff and low prices. You don't get table service, but the atmosphere is sunny and bright and I've enjoyed everything I've eaten here. They close early, so come before 6 if you want... More

Vik's, a well known restaurant in West Berkeley, is easy to get to by car. I take out of town visitors here, and everyone loves it. Bringing pan-Indian food to the West Berkeley area, I like to go whenever I'm there. I like the weekday Thali the best, for value and for flavor, the masala dosa is my weekend favorite.

Viks is beloved in Berkeley. All kinds of people come here for the great Indian snack and street food. The atmosphere is noisy and casual to put it mildly. You get your food from the counter and take it to your table. No tabkecloths and sound echoes. Viks has limited evening hours. Don't come here for ambience but for tasty... More

This Cafeteria/Grocery is in the Westside of Berkeley near the Amtrak. They serve great Indian street food. I had the best dhosa here. The vegetable samosas (2) with cholle (spicy garbanzos) are only $ 6. It is a treat and filling. Or take one samosa home for a snack or light meal later in the week. The ambiance is classic... More

Great food and unique atmosphere - almost like taking a trip to India and buying snacks from street vendors! Order at the counter and pick up freshly prepared food from the other side of the restaurant when your name is called. Wide variety and great taste. Not your typical restaurant and not your typical food. North and South Indian food,... More

Really good, really authentic Indian fare. Lots of variety. Delicious and reasonably priced. Check out the grocery next door for hard to find ingredients.

The delightful descriptions of the chaat selections made me feel like I was buying from Indian street carts and it was delicious. Be prepared for a bare bones do it yourself experience with order and pick up when your name is called. Quite an adventure in spicy tastes. Search it out if you are in the East Bay.

Had been wanting to lunch at Vik's for years but never got around to it until last week. At first I was slightly put off by the institutional cafeteria-style setting although I sort of expected it, but the food was simply delicious. Got to talk with Vik (nice guy!) about preparing food for a party I was planning, and that... More

We went into Berkeley for the day and tried Viks Chaat. It was a unique and fun opportunity to try some new Indian food and see exactly how it is made. We watched from the counter as the main dishes were prepared. Excellent flavors, fresh ingrediants and a wonderful family experience of the culture. Highly recommended.
