Up and down.

Warm ambience, the food is mixed in quality, and, inexplicably, they charge for bread. That seems penny-wise and pound-foolish to me, as French bread in the Bay Area is ubiquitous (and the best anywhere), and it just makes the restaurant look a bit mercenary. The steak frites (only at lunch) are... read more

We have been going to Cafe Rouge for years, but recently we had not only great food, but also a very pleasant experience sitting outside under umbrellas in the sun. Their oysters are great, hamburgers superb, as are all their offerings.

While browsing 4th Street stopped here for lunch. Had the black rice, Fava bean and quinoa salad with cucumbers and it was outstanding! Amazing food and service. Great waiter. Would love to return soon!

This is a fab bistro diner in Berkeley. Good wines, oysters, their own Butchers shop and attentive staff. Visited with an ex colleague whilst I was visiting San Francisco for dinner and drinks. We shared the charcuterie and cheeses (great rabbit pate!) and followed with lamb and couscous. Really well cooked and presented. Good choice of wines

Always fun and delicious food, Cafe Rouge has outside seating with umbrellas, so it is dog friendly and inviting. The oyster bar has a wonderful selection of local (Pt. Reyes and Marshall) oysters, as well as a lovely selection from Washington State. Their meat is from Niman Ranch so it is organic and sustainable while the salads are not to... More

One would think that a restaurant on Fourth Street in Berkeley with such a good reputation would take some pride in it's food. Unfortunately such is not the case with Café Rouge. My wife and I had lunch there the other day and the food was depressingly lackluster. The chicken salad was completely uninspired, had very little chicken, and was... More

Here we had an excellent meal, with perfectly prepared meat, attentive service and a comfortable setting. It tends to get a bit loud when the TV is showing games, but I think that is part of the comfortable atmosphere and we didnìt mind.

We had dinner here with some friends who suggested it. Everything was extremely tasty. The kale caesar salad was the best caesar salad I've ever had. I'm pretty sure I could eat it every day and not get sick of it. I also had the spit-roasted chicken for dinner, paired with a good red wine. The chicken was cooked to... More

We called in here for a casual meal mid week and I had a lovely Fettuccine with Rock shrimp one of the best seafood pasta dishes I have had. However, even though the food was good and the service was okay the atmosphere somewhat spoilt the visit as the place just seemed too stuffy for a casual restaurant.
