Love the food. Many dinners and parties here have established this as a go-to feel-good spot. Unlike many reviewers (and a few friends), we prefer Rouge to Zut! down the block. Although it's expensive & sometimes too noisy, we never feel ripped off here after dinner.

Had a great lunch here of the chicken salad sandwich on special homemade bread while visiting 4th Street in Berkeley. Great bar and ambiance either indoors or outside.

We have visited Cafe Rouge a couple of times - most recently in May 2014. Four of us had a late lunch. It was a Sunday and crowded, but we reserved a table. The menu contains a variety of light fare - we all had salads of various kinds and all were excellent. The baguettes are fresh and very French,... More

The cafe offered a number of dishes that are all done really well, from a hearty burger to a vegan salad. The carpacio was done with some onion rings on top for a different, but welcome flare. The service was terrific and the atmosphere was a nice place to lunch and unwind between business meetings. A definate place to return... More

Not the place for a quiet conversation with friends on Saturday night: hard surfaces and a bar in the dining room, so alcohol-fueled voices rattle our ears. Our capable server does his best to make our party of six comfortable, and the food starts coming right away: mussels in a light savory cream sauce, several kinds of oysters, crisp local... More

Looking for a place to be a regular at when we visit Berkeley. Known for its quality meats we thought it sounded good. $40 for a Rib Eye and you want more than the red wine butter to be good ... but it wasn't. Tough fibrous piece of meat. So disappointed. (Medium - Rare) Had a hamburger too. Didn't finish... More

We have been eating here for years and after a very brief hiatus in prep quality last year, they are back in step. We had a weirdly wonderful "Carrots 2 ways" starter and a dozen bracingly fresh oysters. Then on to a wonderful beef stew (seriously well executed) and a roasted chicken in a Moroccan spiced pilaf (one of the... More

And delicious hotdogs! And most everything else I have eating there is good. I don't love it as much as Zut, but it's very, very good.

The brunch is great, perfect combo being fresh oyster followed by a medium rear steak frite with sunny side up eggs. Yummy!

Whenever we go out for a casual dinner Cafe Rouge is our first choice. The menu changes constantly and there's always something new to try. There's a great bar menu as well. It's been a favorite of ours for years.
