Decent French bistro good addition to the neighborhood

Had the nicoise salad here and it was pretty good. Overall like the place but I didn't get to try much this visit. It looks like you can count on the food from what I saw and tasted. Wines by the glass good if a little pricey.

I had not been to cafe rouge in more than a year and I was really disappointed with every aspect of the restaurant. The service was awful! We had to almost trip our server to get his attention. The wrong salad was brought to our table and the server never seemed to get it right. The lamb ordered by one... More

SUMMARY: Watch for hidden charges DETAILS: Enjoyed the experience until I got my bill. Got charged by the glass for soda water from the bar tap (this is typically either free or free refills in this area). They also add an additional service charge for the kitchen. I was advised that they picked this custom up from restaurants in San... More

In this restaurant you have to order carefully. We have been coming here for over 20 years, and can usually get something our guests can eat, but, as tonight, it always fails to meet what those of us who live here would expect. For example, tonight I ordered the rockfish, and the piece of fish I got was mostly lateral... More

We went here because my wife has wanted to for quite awhile & her aunt was visiting. She talkEd all wee of getting oysters & her aunt said " I was told once to never get oysters in a month with no R in it& I made that mistake recently". They ended up with the corned beef hash & I... More

We stopped for lunch on our way back from Sonoma to the Oakland airport, and sure glad we did. We were fairly early on a Sunday, so the noise level was acceptable, but still pretty loud! We had a most interesting corned beef hash, with lumps of corned beef, not the normal fine grind of the meat, with a perfectly... More

We have been going to Cafe Rouge for years, but recently we had not only great food, but also a very pleasant experience sitting outside under umbrellas in the sun. Their oysters are great, hamburgers superb, as are all their offerings.

Warm ambience, the food is mixed in quality, and, inexplicably, they charge for bread. That seems penny-wise and pound-foolish to me, as French bread in the Bay Area is ubiquitous (and the best anywhere), and it just makes the restaurant look a bit mercenary. The steak frites (only at lunch) are superb. They have no Caesar salad, but they do... More

While browsing 4th Street stopped here for lunch. Had the black rice, Fava bean and quinoa salad with cucumbers and it was outstanding! Amazing food and service. Great waiter. Would love to return soon!
