Description: Venus features the best of our local foodshed, from local farms, waters and ranches, served in warm and lovely style in the heart of Downtown Berkeley. A favorite dinner spot for theater goers, Venus devotes itself to local and organic purveyors, creating delicious Northern California style dishes. The wine list focuses on bio-dynamic, and sustainably farmed grapes, and a "New World" style of wine-making, where the fruit expresses itself. An open kitchen and banquette seating create a cozy vibe. Chef Amy Murray is a 15 year veteran of the organic, farm-to-table movement. Menus are created each month to highlight the best of the season and evoke good appetites. Venus also serves a unique brunch and lunch, and offers uncommonly good beer, wine and light cocktails. We are happy to do small parties and buy outs, and tasty lunch catering.

On a recent visit to Berkeley, we ate breakfast at Venus. The staff was very pleasant and attentive. Our food was delicious but I must say that mine was outstanding. I had the Spring Scramble special and loved every bite! I asked for fruit instead of the potatoes and was surprised when I saw a beautiful arrangement of fresh fruit... More

Ok, so we've gotten snobby about eating fresh, well-prepared food. That is sometimes hard to find at breakfast time. We have a place we can walk to in our small town of Albany but for one of us celebrating a birthday, the request was for a top-notch breakfast Berkeley style. We found it at Venus. One of us had a... Everything tasted fresh and tasty. The menu changes per season. Some of us had the fish and chips, they liked it a lot with large pieces of fresh fish and crispy coating accompanied with huge potato fries. I had the pork chop which came on top of the largest bed of mashed potatoes, but the chop was perfectly cooked and... More

A basic no frills pizza and beer joint. Inside dining, and outside patio dining. The inside restaurant has two levels and is very noisy. Music is extremely loud. The louder the music, the louder people have to talk. The outside patio is nice, but crowded. Table are packed in and close together. Regardless, the outside patio is much better than... More

So nice not to have to stand in line out the door for Sunday breakfast after walking the dogs. Reservations too though they weren't necessary. Great bacon and their Nantucket flapjack. Big enough to two light eaters. Other than getting a mocha (ick) instead of a cocoa a perfect Sunday morning in Berkeley. Filled up fast with regulars who knew... More

My wife and I ate breakfast here a number of times during a recent vacation. Food was fabulous and service was fantastic. They serve really good food and the best coffee in town. Service can't be beat.

We had not been to this little gem of a restaurant in several years -our loss! Three of us went last night and had a great meal with excellent service. We had an asparagus appetizer, kale salads and several small plates that were just plain succulent. The wine list is modest but the selections are excellent. Venus has a buzz... More

Lovely small restaurant with a cosy feel. Service was prompt and friendly. We had the chicken scrambled sausages and the winter frittata special, both of which were great. The toasts tasted of ghee, which was excellent! Probably my favourite breakfast in Berkeley.

My wife and I had delightful meals here before attending a Berkeley Rep show 2 blocks away. The server was a delightful woman who explained things on the menu thoroughly and provided extra sauces and utensils instantaneously. The beer was actually served at the proper temperature, not in a frozen glass, like so many people do. My wife noted that... More

Tiny restaurant with a wait for brunch that was worth it. Service was very friendly and attentive. Food was flavorful and we liked the fact they use local and organic ingredients. A definite must if you are in the area. We will be back!
