La Note - a little quaint french inspired restaurant sits on busy shattuck avenue. Upon entering, you walk into a main dining hall but on a nice summer day ask to be seated in the back. That was the best- we felt like we were in a little French secret garden with umbrellas and little glasses of water and a... More

Here's the good and the bad. OMG how do they make the ham, cheese and eggs so tasty. We ask that the omelette be turned into a scramble and paid for the updrade of a toasted baguette instead of whatever typically comes with the meal. My daughter and I splt this meal which is more than enough for the 2... More

La Note has enjoyed great success since it opened many years ago. This Berkeley French-style bistro is just that, French-style -- NOT authentically French and not that good. While the menu includes a number of French food standards, their ingredients are neither particularly fresh nor are the dishes well executed. For example, beginning with the bread and butter: The bread... More

La Note was my go to brunch spot for my four years at Cal. A popular spot for both residents students and professors.

We (my wife and a good friend of ours) had the good fortune to go to La Note on a beautiful Easter Sunday. The line was quite long so we had a 30 minute wait but fortunately there is a very nice book store (Pegasus) next store so the delaye was a pleasant one. We had the added good fortune... More

We had brunch today at La Note. There is indoor and outdoor seating and we had no wait for a table. I had the cinnamon brioche french toast with a side of bacon. The orange juice is fresh squeezed but my one complaint is that the french toast is not served with real maple syrup! I asked the waitress who... More

The atmosphere in La Note is warm and inviting. In warm weather ask to sit outside in the back garden. There are lines down the block to get into the Sunday brunch; it's that popular. Some of the simple dishes such as croques, or cheese plate are simply perfect. There's usually a fine selection of desserts. I've not eaten dinner... More

This is our go to place for a truly wonderful meal. We have been coming here for years and the one breakfast spot we always take out of town guests. The reason is simple, we always have a fabulous meal. I recommend the ham and cheese omelet (fromage et jambon) or the Pain Perdu, it's always a difficult choice and... More

I was taken back by their attention to the even the smallest detail. Their service, coffee, pastries and even the scrambled eggs were outstanding. I was amazed at how the lemon, ginger & pear pancakes were complex but sublime ....yes this is truly a treat and would HIGHLY recommend! I also would make reservations in advance.

For a great Berkeley breakfast, this place is the best bet. Hopping and bustling with people alone and together, it's okay alone; you don't feel like a loner-- there are others alone too and the people together are talking loudly enough for you to eavesdrop and you don't feel bad. Young families and maybe an Academy Award winning actress (... More
