Don't let the repurposed industrial setting turn you off. In fact, the location is quite brilliant, allowing easy access from either the city proper or the freeway. If you're caught in traffic on the 880, turn off and eat here. The food is very good, with nice little extra touches, such as pickled vegetables and a little cup of cotija... More

If you are hungry for Mexican food, this is the right place for you! It is a trattoria: You place your order at the counter, then find a table, and the food magically arrives just a few minutes later. The menu has all the usual Mexican dishes and more. Portions are generous, prices are moderate, dishes are well prepared. Even... More

Good food, family atmosphere, noisy, good margaritas (very good, actually), good price to value ratio.

Family brought me here on a recent visit and was impressed with the quality of food, ordering systems, speedy and friendly services. They have a well tuned system from order entry to food delivery, all done with a friendly smile. The food selections are fresh, more than adequate, and well prepared. Good selection of draft beers as well as bottled... More

The soccer teams hold awards dinners here, big, basic, noisy. Large burritos. Pretty good value but skip the guacamole.$6.50 for 1 1/2 Tbsp of guacamole and small bag tortilla strips.

After shopping at the nearby North Face Outlet, a couple of employees recommended this place. I'm glad they did. Whether you dine in or carry out, order your meal at the counter. If you dine in they will give you a buzzer and you seat yourself. The food quickly finds you. It all seemed fresh made and yummy. The employees... More

I could probably eat Mexican food every day of the week...especially great Mexican food! Over the last 10 years, I've tried other 'new' places, gourmet Mexican, and taquerias...nothing compares to the overall quality, flavors, service and consistency here. Yes, the line can be daunting, but it moves quickly and is worth the wait. Fresh, local and sustainable is what they... More

From the street, this establishment is unassuming, however, once inside the vibe ramps up rather nicely. The line to order can sometimes be long but the wait is worth it as the food is excellent. A menu with plenty of options, you order then wait for your food to be brought to your table, 3 types of salsa are available on... More

We've been living in Berkeley since September, and Picante has been our favorite Friday night dinner spot. We love the very tasty meals, great service, and relaxed environment. Part of the experience is that it feels like family dining--parents, kids, and extended families relaxing over great food in a laid back and festive atmosphere. Highly recommend.

I've eaten at Picante twice and have had two excellent experiences! The first time, my wife and I came for dinner to break the fast on Yom Kippur. It was our first experience eating Mexican food in California and it was AWESOME. The "cafeteria-style" ordering is unique, but the service is great and the food is delicious! The pictures I... More
