Fun and good Mexican food.

A colleague who grew up in Berkeley suggested three of us meet there for a business lunch. I had never been. It's almost a cafeteria style as you order first and then the waiter brings your food to your table. I had the fish tacos and they were delicious. We sat at a booth and were able to talk... read more

Took a client for lunch. Both ordered enchiladas. Chicken was dry and not good. The salads looked great, but didn't try one. I didnt even finish my food. It was cold by the time I was way done. I'm on the fence with recommending this place.

Fast and friendly service with authentic Mexican. Don't miss the hot chocolate. It was so yummy and you get a big mug of it. I tried the cochinita pibil was so good. The pork was flavorful and tender. The plantains were perfect: crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. My daughter loved her steak taco. I can't forget... More

My husband and I grabbed a quick dinner here and it was fantastic. The food was fresh and very tasty and we noticed the tortillas are made fresh at the main counter. We wish we lived closer to this establishment because it is delicious affordable food, a rare find! On our next vacation in the area we will definitely be... More

Great food. Much more authentic than Taco Bell. Fast service - A customer waits in a line for maybe 10-15 minutes, pays for the food, sits down. the food arrives quickly.

Setting: Directly on 6th street. It is Mexican with a somehow fastfoodish feel. Your order at a counter and they bring the food. It starts all with Totopos (well Nachos) until your order arrives. Parking is on 6th street and is relatively easy. Food: tortillas are freshly made. Salsas are ok. My chile relleno was too greasy and the carnitas... More

The food is well prepared but generally on the milder side. Refrigerated squirt bottles of 3 different heat sauces are available but like needing to add a healthy dose of black pepper to your food the end result is not quite the same as if the salsa type flavorings were cooked in. If you like mexican and want to control... More

This place is a cross between self serve and sit down. Order and pay then the food is brought to your table. Mexican American fare. Huge portions, plan to share or have some for lunch the next day! We found the Flavors a bit bland, but a wide variety of sauce, from mild and herbaceous to dangerously hot help you... More

I find I cannot make a trip to the Bay Area without eating at Picante's. This is just flat-out good Mexican food. Do not be put-off by a bit of a line as the order-at-the-counter service moves quickly and the food is delivered to your table super fast! The authentic, fresh, and healthy options will please all Mexican food lovers.... More

Picante has a great menu with lots of traditional Mexican choices and above all a lot of flags to indicate vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan selections. Loved their three-up tacos with a dozen filing variations served with pinto beans. Four different salsa sauces are housed in a glass fronted fridge for folks to self-serve at will. Efficient phone-in or online ordering... More
