Genuine Mexican delights

Picante has a great menu with lots of traditional Mexican choices and above all a lot of flags to indicate vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan selections. Picante has a great menu with lots of traditional Mexican choices and above all a lot of flags to indicate vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan selections. Loved their three-up tacos with a dozen filing variations served with pinto beans. Four different salsa sauces are housed in a glass fronted fridge for folks to self-serve at will. Efficient phone-in or online ordering... More

I great place to stop with a family or as a couple. It's line service and offers takeout, but they are so efficient it doesn't bother one bit. They even offer a road side pickup service and have their own parking area. It's busy inside but the efficiency makes everything ok, and you overlook the kids and other distractions. Their... More

Yup, arrange flight so I can head straight here. Straight forward good Mexican food...the kind where you eat yourself sick. Giant portions--great nachos, mole, best horchata. Someone is always making tortillas right in the restaurant by the register. It's not fancy--and believe me we do not have mexican food like this in CT! And if you have little kids you... More

You order at the counter, and then sit down and a server brings the food to you at table. Service was fast, but that is probably explained by the fact that the cook didn't waste (spend) any time on seasoning. The food was really flat & bland...that's probably why they have ketchup-sized bottles of hot sauce everywhere (you'll need it!).... More

I'm confused about Picante. Many people rave about it. I find it below average at best. My last meal there consisted of nachos and a cheese enchilada. The chips for the nachos were very hard -- they didn't taste stale so I imagine there weren't. But they were too hard for normal eating -- very thick. Maybe this is a... More

I really enjoyed our dinner here, especially considering we were a large group with a dog thrown in to boot! The food was outstanding Mexican food with a wide array of dishes including guacamole (fantastic) and chicken mole and shrimp tacos. You order at the window, and then you are given a table beeper and the food is brought to... More

This is an East Bay Favorite, often crowded and loud, but usually quite delicious and fun. The line to order looks daunting at first, but it moves quickly, and you will have your food very quickly as well, making this a favorite with families (there is room and tolerance enough for kids to move around a make a little noise).... I wanted to try everything I saw! The nachos are really good - such a far cry from what some places call a nacho - crispy chips w/guac and sour cream and jalapenos atop black beans - one order could be an appetizer for four, a hearty meal for two people. The chicken enchiladas w/salsa verde are exquisite - such... More

been here twice in the last couple of weeks: the food is good (burrito al verde excellent) and the restaurant offers a wide variety of draft beers. the location is very nice, the waiters pretty friendly. if you are in Berkley and you feel like having good mexican food at a reasonable price in a fun place, this is the... My 10 yr old kid had the Mexican red rice, beans and cheese burrito today ($4.85). A good size for a kid. Fresh tasting flour tortilla. The root beer tasted really good and was made with agave and not corn syrup. It didn't taste very fizzy but the straw kept creeping up. The chips were very crunchy. The salsa was... More
