I have been going to Kirala once a week for about 7 years. Obviously I think it is wonderful. If you come on the right days the fish is amazingly fresh. The nigiri and sashimi is fantastic, but since I don't really care for rolls I can't say anything about that. Every person I've ever been to Kirala with has... More

We arrived at 2:01 and were told that they had closed at 2:00. What a shame! I would say this is very poor customer service regardless of how good the food may or may not be. We'll never know now. Of course, we will never go back!

We found this place over tripadvisor and have not been disappointed! The food is excellent and the stuff is very open and friendly. The place was crowded wo we had to wait for about 20 minutes before getting seated. I don't know if they accept reservations but if they do, I'd recommend to get a reservation before visiting. Make sure... More

So, we live nearby. We come here ALL the time and it's ALWAYS superb. And we're Bay Area foodies. When my dad comes to visit, he wants to eat here every night. You'd think a native Californian would miss Mexican food, but, no. Just Kirala. Every night. When friends who used to live here come back to visit, this is... More

My birthday. First time to dine-in in this place after seeing lines of people outside the restaurant every time we drive by. Curious and hungry, we order appetizer of Soba salad , Unagi and Uni sushi. These 3 starters are gooood, however, I can't say the same thing about my dinner of Beef teriyaki (and to think it's rib eye... More

This is perfect neighborhood Japanese restaurant with sushi, robata grill and wonderful fish and noodle dishes. The lunch special plates are a real bargain and they make unusual sushi rolls. No reservations do get there early

Mid-week it opens at 5.30pm for dinner and is full by 6pm - we were so impressed on our first visit that we went back the very next evening. A few tables started to empty around 7pm so that would be a good time to try. There's a parking lot opposite that's conveniently empty in the evenings. One couple at... More

Homecoming in Berkeley. Son-in-law, Sam, and I stopped by Kirala on Friday for lunch. It was extremely crowded but we were seated immediately at the sushi counter, which I prefer to tables for two people as it is easier to talk when a restaurant is noisy. I had sashimi and uni (sea urchin) nigiri. Sam had a roll and seaweed... More

I could eat here every day (some weeks, I DO!!) This Japanese restaurant is never boring. Not only do they offer the freshest sushi and sashimi raw fish dishes, they have robata grilled dishes. They have rib-eye steak, grilled salmon and mackerel, even lamb chops and wakyu beef. This is in addition to the traditional teriyaki chicken, udon noodles, etc.... More

We waited one hour on Saturday night at 7:30. A great fresh sushi place, but the ginger beef was good.
