Very good lunch!

My wife and I went to Ajanta with another couple for lunch. We each ordered our own lunch specials, and we were all happy with them. I appreciated that their chicken dishes are made using organically-raised chickens and that any entree could be substituted into one of their special lunch combos.

setting: Right on Solano. Parking can be a challenge. Dark interior. Service are dressed in a nice India fashion. Food: Right spices. A little overcooked. Tasted more like we had the leftovers from the lunch menu. We were not excited after reading all the good reviews on Tripadvisor. Service: The greeter was very nice, warm and friendly. Our table waiter... More

Ajanta's lamb is the best, but don't miss the regional specialties - things you won't find in the run of the mill restaurants. If the chef's tasting menu is available, be sure to go for it - small portions of lots of good things at a very reasonable price. There is a short but reasonable wine list, and, of course,... More

We have been going to Ajanta restaurant for over 20 years. Every experience has been exciting, delectable and wonderful. Our New Year's Eve experience was even more special as we ordered the Chef's Tasting Non-Vegetarian menu for 3 of us. We got three appetizers - Tandoori Scallops, Crab Cakes and Chicken Chaat, three main courses - Seyal Fish, Rack of... More

Our family loved the vegetarian set menu. It was inventive, generous portions, and delicious. Great service from multiple wait staff, and fairly priced.

Excellent in every respect. Every table full on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Every dish was wonderful. Do not miss this restaurant if you are anywhere in the Bay area.

I cook Indian food, we have spent cumulatively more than 4 months in India spread over 4 trips and we still LOVE the food at Ajanta! Fussy Liz

Truly excellent food. A range of spices, meat options and vegetarian offerings. I've never been to India, but I always see Bay area locals of Indian origin in the restaurant, which strikes me as a good sign. We had the tasting menu, which was excellent. Small bite-side appetizers so you don't feel overly stuffed, and a nice range of entrees:... More

My husband and I tried Ajanta several years ago and continue to go when we can. The owner is a gentle balding man, usually wearing a suit. He has been very kind to us, and comes over and talks to us when we are there. He makes a suggestion from the menu, and whatever he suggests is always amazing. I... More

The reviews read well so we decided to try it out. It's a mid-sized place with ok ambience. Pluses: - Speedy service - excellent mango lassi Nits: - Small portions and watery gravy. We tried both the Chicken do pizza and Lamb Vindaloo. On commenting that the portions were spicy/water, all the owner bluntly stated that "this is how things... More
