Most Enjoyable Experience

There were three of us for lunch and we had three different entrees and starters. Everything was excellent, especially the mint sauce with the Samosas. The Mango Lasse was one of the best I have ever had. Service was attentive and very nice.

Three of us had dinner here on a Thursday evening at 6:30, and the restaurant was almost full at the time, and was completely full shortly thereafter. Reservations therefore are strongly advised. One friend had her usual favorite, Tandoori Chicken Tikka, another had the vegan meal and I had lamb chops, and all of these dishes were excellent. The main... More

My 1st time at Ajanta and the food was good. I'm not use to single plate serving at Indian restaurants but for lunch this is what they do and I liked it. That way I knew what I was getting was mine. The portion is good, the flavor is great. Watch the heat you ask for. I love hot food... More

We are so fortunate to have this excellent restaurant in our neighborhood. My son, who just spent several months in India, was delighted with our meal. We finished everything, including the appetizer spinach and feta samosa, the nan with mint and feta, plus two entrees. Absolutely will return.

Though we live far from Berkeley, we feel when we dine at Ajanta's that we are in our neighborhood Indian restaurant. It's not just the food and smiling service; at home we cook from the Ajanta cookbook, and we have an array of spices, supplied by Ajanta, that match the recipes. So on our latest visit, I said to the... More

Ajanta offered an array of Indian choices from many different regional cuisines. My dinner partner and I shared Lamb Biryiani and Kashmiri Chicken. Both were delicious, richly flavorful and filling. We also had Vegetable Pakoras, which were a bit of a disapointment. Rather than the typical fritters we both are accustomed to, these were thick slices of squash, batter dipped... More

My wife and I went to Ajanta with another couple for lunch. We each ordered our own lunch specials, and we were all happy with them. I appreciated that their chicken dishes are made using organically-raised chickens and that any entree could be substituted into one of their special lunch combos.

setting: Right on Solano. Parking can be a challenge. Dark interior. Service are dressed in a nice India fashion. Food: Right spices. A little overcooked. Tasted more like we had the leftovers from the lunch menu. We were not excited after reading all the good reviews on Tripadvisor. Service: The greeter was very nice, warm and friendly. Our table waiter... More

Ajanta's lamb is the best, but don't miss the regional specialties - things you won't find in the run of the mill restaurants. If the chef's tasting menu is available, be sure to go for it - small portions of lots of good things at a very reasonable price. There is a short but reasonable wine list, and, of course,... More

We have been going to Ajanta restaurant for over 20 years. Every experience has been exciting, delectable and wonderful. Our New Year's Eve experience was even more special as we ordered the Chef's Tasting Non-Vegetarian menu for 3 of us. We got three appetizers - Tandoori Scallops, Crab Cakes and Chicken Chaat, three main courses - Seyal Fish, Rack of... More
