The East Bay is in a constant period of new restaurants opening and the temptation is to constantly try something new. Bette's is a reminder that sometimes the tried and true really is not only 'good enough' but really quite excellent. Just got back from a late morning/early lunch with my teenage son. We were given a blanket to put... More

Very popular so had to wait 40 mins for breakfast. Enjoyed it all, great omelet, almond croissant, coffee refills - bitterly regret not having room for the pancake which looked awesome!

Quirky little shopping area in an old industrial area of Berkeley lies one of the really great old style diners which we look for when traveling! Bette's Oceanview Diner has everything you could possibly want except the ocean view! Never mind that, this is a cute, cool and compact family diner that gives big value and wonderful fare. The menu... More

I have been to this place about 10 years ago (just bumped onto it) and I tried it again now. The quality and the atmosphere and the food remain... the same. Excellent breakfast choices, good service (with no exaggerations), fast, nice prices.... what else to ask. It is worth driving or walking there (if you leave in downtown Berkeley).

This place sets the bar on a BLT. Very simple yet very delicious. I am a fan of their breakfast also. Staff is very friendly and even provide you with blankets if you are one of the lucky ones that has to sit outside.

There is no ocean view but don't let that hold you back from eating breakfast or lunch there. We've been going for years and never disappointed. Great menu - yummy daily specials. A great place to have a meal and then explore all the fun shopping 4th Street has to offer.

This is a great restaurant in its class, but it shows up in TripAdvisor with a high ranking because it's excellent for what it is, not because it's a destination in itself. It's designed as a 1950s diner with a pretty simple menu, bare tables (no table cloths) crowded together, jukebox, efficient and friendly (but not gracious or fancy) service,... More

Really well placed on 4th street which is a lovely part of Berkeley. Very popular and with good reason. Service is good considering the number of people they have to cater for. Menu is good and imaginative. I would eat here again and again. And so close to the Apple Store!!!

This place had been on my list of places to try for many years and we finally had an opportunity. The wait was ludicrous (1 hour), but we weren't in a hurry, and a couple of cups of Peet's most excellent coffee paired with baked goods from Bette's To-Go operation made the wait tolerable. If you find yourself with a... More
