This place is adorable! It is located in a really cute neighborhood that has a lot of small shops and artists selling their creations. I'm not sure why the name is ocean view diner because there is no ocean view. It is a 50's diner with great authentic decor. We were there for breakfast. Be prepared to wait a while... More

We had to wait for about 40 minutes to get our table, but the food was worth the wait. I ordered scrambled eggs and buckwheat pancakes, and they were very good. My family ordered other foods (regular pancakes, corned beef hash, pancake soufflé, etc) and we tried each other's foods. They were all good. I definitely recommend this place if... More

Breakfast has become the casualty of the battle of the waist line. The only time I have a full breakfast is on vacation, and this breakfast helped make the vacation. With that said, the only way to see the ocean from Bette's is with the aid of a helicopter. We found Bette’s while doing a little noodling around and shopping.... More

This place is a neighborhood hang out. The staff seemed to know everyone that walked it. It's tiny place and a real diner feel. The food was ok, we didn't try anything special though, just your average breakfast food. The home potatoes were great!

Nice location on 4th street Berkeley and tasty food should make for a nice experience. The service could only be described as abysmal. After ordering for a second time ("the order was lost") we still did not receive our food. An explanation of how two orders can be lost in 15 feet from table to grill should have been forthcoming... The breakfast at Bette's is always exceptional, especially the extremely fresh-tasting eggs. But today's special oatmeal pancakes were even better! The texture and flavor were both outstanding. Throw in the eggs and sausage that accompanied them and it was a winner. Of course, my wife's bacon and eggs weren't bad, either!

I have been coming here for years. While there are many wonderful choices on the menu for breakfast, I always seem to order the soft scrambled eggs with crispy bacon. These eggs are SO good. Yes, you most often have to wait for a table, but it's on 4th Street which is full of wonderful shops to peruse while you... More

About a mile from the ocean (not in view!) and tucked in among a couple of blocks of upmarket shopping that locals rave about, an unpretentious place with OK food, only breakfast and sandwiches but no burgers Nothing special but always busy, which (to us) indicates the neighborhood choice is poor. Seating outside is limited and, at least midweek, primarily... More

Traveling from LA to Eureka we decided to stop in Berkeley for a breakfast break. Found Bette's doing my trip research and the breakfast (served all day) menu looked intriguing. Located off Interstate 580 in a nice walk around main-street type setting with shops, galleries and restaurants find parking where you can. We had to wait 10min to get a... More

We visited Bette's randomly and loved it! Disclaimer: I am a big fan of diners and diner food. We walked in and saw another one of my favorite things; a jukebox! Hanging from the ceiling was a gigantic piece of pie. We were seated in a booth immediately and ordered pretty standard breakfast fare; eggs, potatoes, toast, etc... Everything was... More
