Description: Rivoli strives to be a hands on, moderately priced restaurant with simple and creative food, carefully selected wines and comfortable service in a warm and lively atmosphere. Rivoli’s distinction comes from the heart and soul of its owners and staff. The menu relies on what is seasonal, local and fresh, using mostly organic produce, sustainably caught fish and naturally raised meats and poultry. The wines are selected for their affinity with the food, and offer the best values from the cooler regions of California and the Old World. The dining room staff provides friendly and attentive service and the chefs and cooks are skilled artisans of their craft.

Rivoli is a favorite of ours for special occasions. On a recent visit, we celebrated our anniversary, and we were as impressed as always with the ambiance, menu, service, and overall experience. We each ordered an appetizer and entrée, then shared a dessert. Every item was excellent: Parmigiano Reggiano soufflé with San Danielle prosciutto, sugar kiss melon, and black mission... More

We love this restaurant and have been there several times. Lately, it has fallen out of the "top 100" according to the SF Chronicle. I saw no evidence of a decline. The food, especially the portobella mushroom fritters, was the way we remembered it, and the service was impeccable. It is not cheap, but worth it. We tend to save... More

Fantastic! So fantastic I went two nights in a row while on vacation. Exquisite entrees we had: (1) grilled Gulf shrimp, Anson Mills creamy grits, summer succotash, sweet onion and red pepper cream, green tomato jam, scallions (2) grilled leg of veal, sage marinade, roast new potatoes, baby spinach, Marsala jus, fava bean pesto Appetizer: (1) grilled dayboat scallops, chanterelle... Went to dinner here last Saturday night and oh what a fabulous dinner it was. There were four of us and each of us had something different. Every single dish was mouth watering. The soufflé appetizer was to die for. All I can say is go eat here - it was a wonderful experience from the ambiance to the food... More

Delicious and unique food that changes every few weeks. Comfortable, quiet ambiance, somewhat spotty service that doesn't always equal the caliber of restaurant expected at this price level.

If you have read any of my other reviews, you know that I am a foodie, and that I travel on my stomach. So when I say that this is my favorite restaurant in Berkeley, you know that this is REALLY good! The chef-owner, Wendy, and her partner, Roscoe, own this restaurant and Corso Trattoria, and both of them habitually... More

We celebrated a family birthday here last night, and Rivoli Restaurant excelled in every way! I ordered the Grilled Moroccan Chicken. Some may think, oh, it's just chicken, but it sounded intriguing. I ordered it and am so very glad I did. It was amazing! The chick pea fries were phenomenal, and the entire dish had the perfect blend of... More

We arrived without reservations early on a weeknight and were seated with some hesitancy (on the part of the hostess) near the hallway. The dining room was attractively designed and I enjoyed the peacefulness of the window wall. The sommelier suggested a few wines based on our tastes, but we decided to just order by the glass. His presumption that... More

The food was excellent, we had great service and were so happy to find this small restaurant. There were older couples celebrating events, people who had been there many times and were personally greeted by the staff, young families and couples. For me, a mix of ages is always a good sign in a restaurant.

When my foodie family came to town, I wanted to be sure to feed them well so I knew Rivoli was a must. But hey, why not go a bit overboard, as they did travel from the East Coast? So I pitted Rivoli against that famous house on Shattuck. While I find it very difficult to say anything bad about... More
